65-billion Investment Brings Electricity to Remote Villages in Muong Khuong district

The 14 villages with 774 households in particularly remote areas of Muong Khuong (Lao Cai) are expected to access the national grid this year.

Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) has kicked off the power supply project to remote villages without accessing the national grid in Muong Khuong district, Lao Cai province. This project is owned by EVNNPC.

With the scale of 35km of 35kV lines, seventeen 35/0.4 kV substations with a total capacity of 2,250 KVA and 42 km of 0.4 kV lines, the project plays a significant role in contributing to poverty reduction, bringing “the Party’s light” to the remote areas, meeting the long-expecting  desire of ethnic peoples in the border District of Muong Khuong.

Only 2 months after the Lao Cai grid investment cooperation and development agreement was signed by and between EVN and Lao Cai People's Committee, the project was finally commenced.

Muong Khuong district is a particularly difficult area in Lao Cai province, bordering China with 9 out of 16 are border communes and towns. This district has totally 14 ethnic groups, 88.02% of the total population are ethnic minorities. Currently, 283 villages, hamlets, approximately 19,000 households in Lao Cai province have not been connected to the national grid yet.
