On October 23, 2018, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) held the working session on solutions to ensuring the quantity and quality of coal for power production in 2019.

EVN and Vinacomin discussed about the coal supply plans for power production in 2019 on October 23, 2018 in Hanoi

According to Mr. Dinh Quang Tri - Deputy General Director acting as the EVN’s General Director, the Group has reported to the Ministry of Industry and Trade on four power supply plans in 2019.

It is estimated that in the first six months of 2019, EVN's power plants will use 15.45 million tons of coal for power production. The demand of EVN for the whole year is estimated at nearly 29 million tons of coal.

To ensure fuel for power generation, EVN suggested Vinacomin determine the quantity of coal to be likely supplied both in 2019 and in the long run; unify the methods and costs of transportation, etc.

Mr. Dang Thanh Hai - General Director of Vinancomin said that the quantity of coal for power production accounts for 78% of the total quantity of coal consumed by Vinacomin. Therefore, Vinacomin has paid special attention to ensuring the quantity of coal for power production.

Vinacomin undertakes to conduct the lifelong coal supply for power projects or supply coal as agreed by both parties based on the operation period of the plants. In term of coal quality, Vinacomin undertakes to assure the coal dust following the current national standards. In case it is required to mix imported coal with domestic coal, Vinacomin shall ensure that the quality criteria of coal meet the demand of the plants.
