Releasing fingerling fish into Dong Nai Hydropower reservoirs to supplement and regenerate aquatic resources
This is an activity held annually by Dong Nai Hydropower Company, continually for many years to supplement and regenerate aquatic resources in Dong Nai 3 and Dong Nai 4 Hydropower Reservoirs.
According to Dong Nai Hydropower Company’s leaders, releasing fingerling fish into these reservoirs will help to diversifying aquatic resources, regenerating the ecosystem of the reservoirs, thereby increasing fishing resources, creating more livelihoods, contributing to stabilizing the lives of local people.
The program also raises the community awareness of the role of hydropower reservoirs, thereby promotes protection of the reservoirs and proper exploitation and use to maintain and develop fish and shrimp resources.
Dong Nai Hydropower Company currently manages and operates Dong Nai 3 and Dong Nai 4 hydropower plants. These two power plants were built in 2004 in the Lam Dong and Dak Nong provinces. Dong Nai 4 Hydropower Plant has a capacity of 340MW while Dong Nai 3 180MW. The average annual total power output of the two plants to the national grid is 1.7 billion kWh.
The operation of Dong Nai 3 and Dong Nai 4 hydropower plants has improved water supply to the downstream area and other hydropower plants on the same stream. At the same time, operation of the hydropower dam system also regulates and mitigates floods in downstream areas, helps people stabilize their lives, creates favorable conditions for aquaculture as well as other activities.
