At the meeting, EVN’s leaders and specialized departments spent a lot of time discussing and answering questions about the EVN’s restructuring process, development strategy and policies.

At the meeting, the two sides also focused on discussing the cross-border power trading situation. Since 2016, the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Laos have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the development of hydropower projects, the connection of the power system and the power purchase from Laos. Accordingly, the total electricity capacity sold from Laos to Vietnam in the period 2020 - 2025 is at least 3,000MW and in the period 2025 - 2030 is at least 5,000MW. Implementing the MoU between the two Governments, in the past time, EVN has actively promoted cooperation activities in power purchase with EDL and EDL-Generation Public Company (EDL-Gen) under the policy in energy development cooperation between the two countries.

Currently, EVN is selling electricity through voltage levels of 220kV-22kV-35kV through 9 locations near the border between the two countries with a commercial electricity output of about 50 million kWh/year. The coordination in operation, security and safety of the power grid is well done by the two sides, contributing to improving the material and spiritual life of the Laos localities.

At the end of the effective meeting, leaders of EVN and EDL unified that they would sign an MoU on cooperation between the two sides shortly, continue to closely coordinate to implement common works, constantly expand the friendly cooperation relationship between the Power sector of Vietnam and Laos.
