At the meeting, EVN’s Vice President Ngo Son Hai stated that EVN has been accelerating cooperation activities in power trading between EVN and Lao businesses in general and EDL-Gen in particular.

Over the past time, EVN and EDL-Gen have actively promoted cooperation activities in power trading under the policy of energy development cooperation between the two countries. The two sides have agreed to regularly exchange information and coordinate closely with the ministries, agencies, authorities and governments of the two countries to remove difficulties and obstacles, aiming to promote and facilitate cooperation between the two sides.

It is known that since 2016, the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Laos have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in developing hydropower projects, power grid interconnection and power purchases from Laos. Accordingly, the total capacity of electricity sold from Laos to Vietnam will be at least 3,000MW and 5,000MW in the periods 2020 - 2025 and 2025 – 2030, respectively.
