Enhancing Stability and Reliability of Vietnam Power System

That was subject of the seminar organized by the National Load Dispatch Center (A0) in coordination with Siemens Co., Ltd., on November 2 in Hanoi

In two years 2015 and 2016, A0 has collaborated with Siemens to implement the project on review, analysis and proposing solutions to improve stability and reliability of Vietnam power system.

The research done by Siemens shows that Vietnam power system has good voltage and frequency stability. However, due to the concentration of power plants in the North and load centers in the South, the proposed solution is to enhance the transmission capacity of the 500kV vital transmission line, ensuring the stability of power supply.

To improve the quality of voltage and capacity of transmission, Siemens also proposed the solution of installing static VAR compensator (fast-acting reactive power compensator on transmission network) to help prevent power cut  during light load.

In addition, Siemens also researched on solutions to improve the interconnection power network between Vietnam and Cambodia.

At the seminar, Siemens experts presented measurements and database; process of measurement and test at the power plants and substations; adjusting power system stabilizer; improvement of the interconnection power network between Vietnam and Cambodia; enhancing primary power reserve for frequency control, etc.

The Siemens experts appreciated the precise data collection of A0’s engineers during the process of research. At the seminar, the two sides also discussed and clarified specialized issues such as: Degree of stable phase angle in international standards; How to activate primary frequency control at power plants and gas turbines, etc.

Based on researches of Simens, A0 will continue to research, calculate and offer solutions most matching the actual situation of Vietnam power system.
