The director of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Company said, in 2016, due to the influence of El Nino, all the large river basins across the country were affected with the flow to the reservoirs lower than average one, causing difficulties for the hydropower plants.
The flow on the Da river to the Hoa Binh reservoir reached 60% of the average flow (for many years) in the main flood season (third quarter), which affected the power generation as well as water storage for the reservoir.

Despite having difficulties in hydrological conditions, the Hoa Binh company has actively collaborated with the functional sectors to closely monitor the happenings of hydrology and meteorology, to calculate and regulate water properly for assuring the power generation, flood control and water supply for agricultural irrigation.
From now until the end of 2016, the company is expected to produce power at the order of the National Load Dispatch Center (A0), striving to reach an energy amount of over 10 billion kWh. If the above target can be fulfilled, it is the forth consecutive year that the Hoa Binh power plant produces over 10 billion kWh.
For water storage of the reservoir, Mr. Nguyen Van Minh added, up to this moment time, Hoa Binh reservoir is almost fully stored, at approximately normal water level (116.8 metres/117 metres), ready to supply water for the winter-spring crop in 2016-2017 for the Northern midland and plain as well as ensure the target of power generation in 2017.
