The project to supply power from the national grid to Lai Son island commune, Kien Hai district, Kien Giang province was commenced on September 4, 2015. It was the largest 110 kV line crossing the sea in Vietnam, first time implemented in Kien Giang province with over 24.5 km in length. It was deployed to ensure the national security and defence and marine, island and coastal economic development.
The project had a total investment of VND 484.5 billion funded by the Southern Power Corporation. The project included construction of 19.4 km of 110 kV An Bien-Xeo Nhau line and 24.5 km of Xeo Nhau – Lai Son line crossing the sea, rehabilitation and expansion of medium and low voltage distribution grid on Lai Son island: 13.4 km of medium voltage line , 12.7 km of low voltage line and 13 distribution substations with a total capacity of 1,950 kVA. There are 1,932 households connected to electricity.
