GEAPP is an organization established at the COP26 Conference, to promote investment in green energy transition and renewable energy solutions.
On 22 February 2023, Mr. Simon Harford - Director of GEAPP had a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha about the possibility of cooperation between GEAPP and Vietnam in the field of energy transition.
Currently, Vietnam is trying to achieve the net zero emissions goal of greenhouse gas by 2050, contributing to environmental protection and responding to climate change in the region and globally.

Information at the meeting, the President and CEO of EVN said that EVN will comply with the direction of the Government of Vietnam on energy transition for Vietnam's electricity industry. Currently, in order to carry out the energy transition, EVN has made a number of proposals for implementation: supplementing the planning and implementing offshore wind power investment in the Northern region to enhance the power supply in the Northern region and combine to ensure national security and reduce greenhouse gas emissions; researching and investing in a renewable energy storage system (BESS) for the optimal and safe operation of the system when the percentage of renewable energy sources increases...
The President and CEO of EVN said that, for developing countries, the energy transition needs to be implemented with appropriate policies and financial resources. For EVN, challenges can be mentioned: large investment costs, primary fuel costs (coal, gas) at market prices while ensuring affordable electricity price and the Government approves this electricity price; changing fuel for coal-fired power plants requires large investment costs; the problem of ensuring the stability of the power system when renewable energy sources penetrate deeply….
EVN wishes that GEAPP as well as its partners will advise and support Vietnam in developing policies for implementing green energy; supporting EVN in human resource training. The President and CEO of EVN also emphasized the urgency and proposed to promote the pilot project of BESS in Vietnam.

The director of GEAPP said that energy transition is a long-term process, GEAPP is ready to be a long-term partner, ready to advise and support appropriate solutions so that Vietnam can use more green energy sources, promoting Vietnam to become a clean energy center, a renewable energy center.
