EVN has made a great contribution to the development of the country
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc acknowledged and praised the contribution made by nearly 100,000 officials and employees of Vietnam Electricity to the socio-economic development of the country in 2019.
The Prime Minister shared at the conference about some difficulties of the power industry over the past year in load, high demand for power; drought in many basins across the country, the lowest amount of water flow into the hydropower reservoirs, especially in the Red River basin. The supply of fuel for power generation such as coal and gas has met with difficulties; many non-EVN power projects are behind schedule, and so on.
In this context, Vietnam Electricity has ensured the power supply to the economy and daily life of the people with a commercial power output increase by nearly 9% compared to that in 2018, while EVN’s accounted for only 54% of the total power capacity throughout the system.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the most impressive thing was the significant improvement in the access-to-electricity index. In 2019, Vietnam ranked 27th/190 countries, economies in the world and the 4th in the ASEAN region, 2 years ahead of the target specified in the Government's Resolution.
The Prime Minister praised EVN for environmental protection. By the end of 2019, the ash consumption rate of thermal power plants reached 70%, much higher than the previous years’ (40% from 2015-2018). Many units of EVN have taken initiatives and innovations in preventing dust dispersal, "greening" areas of slag, ash treatment and oil-contaminated slag, etc.
The Prime Minister especially praised the leaders and employees of Vietnam Electricity for their solidarity, unity, promotion of democracy, working efforts, difficulty overcoming and comprehensive development of the Group.

Power must be one step ahead
The Prime Minister has assigned EVN with the tasks: In difficult conditions, EVN had to play a leading role in ensuring power supply, and safely operating power systems. Preparing a preparedness plan to cope with drought, hot weather, high demand for power. The Prime Minister emphasized that in the coming time, power development must be prioritized with one step ahead because power plays an important role in economic development and people's daily life.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises were assigned to coordinate with EVN and large corporations in the good management of coal and gas for power supply with the point of view that coal and gas fuels must be prioritized for power generation.
Ten power projects invested by EVN were requested to accelerate their implementation, including Quang Trach 1, Quang Trach 2, Dung Quat 1, Dung Quat 3, O Mon 3, O Mon 4 thermopower plants; Hoa Binh expansion, Ialy expansion, Tri An expansion hydropower projects; Bac Ai pumped storage hydropower project, as well as, at the same time, speed up the progress of synchronous transmission grid and ensure the relief of all the capacity of renewable energy plants.
The National Steering Committee for Power Development and People's Committees of localities having power transmission lines need to maximally facilitate the compensation for site clearance so that the progress of projects can be guaranteed.
EVN needs to continue promoting the implementation of restructuring, reorganizing the Group, enhancing efficiency and competitiveness, building self-improving power industry in the context of integration; promoting administrative reform, best-serving people, improving the efficiency of anti-corruption, practicing saving and fighting against wastefulness.
In term of reducing the time of power access, the Prime Minister didn’t want the Power sector to stop only in the top 4 of ASEAN, but to continue developing itself stronger, take the goal realized by OECD (The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development Countries) the target to strive for.
