The forum was attended by delegates from central and local ministries, agencies, international organizations, economic experts, industry associations, research institutes and universities. Mr. Ngo Son Hai - Deputy General Director of Viet Nam Electricity participated at the forum.
Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Van Tung said that the power industry is currently facing a complex and multi-objective "problem". On the one hand, it needs to meet the increasing demand for socio-economic development. On the other hand, it is necessary to ensure compliance with international commitments to sustainable development. Beside, there is scarcity of traditional energy sources while new and renewable energy sources are still in the development stage.
Speakers discussing the application of science and technology in the field of energy to ensure the national energy security in the coming time
One of the most important solutions to the problem of the power industry is to further promote the application of efficient energy technologies, synchronically transfer and master new and sustainable energy technologies such as wind and solar power technology. It is absolutely feasible when having the simultaneous and joint participation by managers, businesses and scientists; The cooperation, support for technology transfer from developed countries such as Germany, Japan, etc., and international energy associations.
In the context of high energy demands to meet socio-economic development, Vietnam has exploited the hydropower resources almost at maximum, plans to develop nuclear energy have been temporarily stopped, so Vietnam has been importing primary energy for power production. It is therefore necessary to diversify new and renewable energy sources to improve the capacity, efficiency, sustainability and adaptability of the national energy sector as well as to implement national commitments towards the goals of sustainable development.
In parallel with the policies and solutions for efficient use of traditional energy sources such as coal and hydropower, the Party and the Government of Vietnam have been setting up policy frameworks to diversify supplies and support new, renewable energy sources, especially solar and wind power. Some prominent policies are: Vietnam energy development Strategy 2020, vision to 2050; Vietnam renewable energy development Strategy until 2030, vision to 2050; Adjustment of national power development plan for 2011-2020 with consideration to 2030.
In the past years, MOST cooperated, associated with relevant agencies in an effort to institutionalize the guidelines and policies of the Party and the State on science and technology development and technology transfer, to remove obstacles at maximum in practice in order to create the most favorable legal environment to promote the transfer, technological innovation.
For the power sector, in the Science and Technology Development Strategy until 2020, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) has determined to focus on researching and mastering technology of medium and large hydroelectric, thermal power plants, to study and apply new forms of energy and renewable energy as well as research scientific and technological solutions for saving and efficient use in the production, transmission and consumption of electric energy. On the basis, the Ministry of Science and Technology has carried out many key research programs to handle technological problems in the energy sector, including the national key scientific and technological program in the period of 2016-2020." said Deputy Minister Tran Van Tung.
At the forum, participants discussed and discussed many issues such as: Results of the 10-year implementation of the national energy development strategy to 2020 with a vision to 2050; Trends in energy technology development in the world and opportunities for Vietnam; The role of technology in the development of clean coal industry - Opportunities and challenges; Potential and technological challenge in developing solar energy in Vietnam, etc.
This Forum is an opportunity for managers, leaders of ministries, industries, economic professionals, businesses and investors to share their experiences on energy use in business and to expand cooperation to bring the economy of Vietnam to sustainable development.
