The energization of the Thot Not 500kV Substation contributes to enhancing transmission capacity and ensuring a safe and stable power supply for the Southwestern region. At the same time, it creates favorable conditions for absorbing the capacity of power sources in the area, meeting the demands for socio-economic development in the upcoming period.
On the evening of December 21, the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), in coordination with the Southern Power Projects Management Board (SPMB) and relevant units, organized the energization of the Thot Not 500kV Substation Project. This is a special-grade energy project (Group B) invested in by EVNNPT and constructed in Thuan Hung Ward, Can Tho City.
According to the design, the project involves the new construction of a 500/220/35kV substation with two transformers, each having a capacity of 900MVA. In this stage, one 900MVA transformer (AT3) has been installed, with space reserved for a second 500kV transformer.

On the 500kV side, the substation is arranged with 8 outgoing feeders across 4 modules; in this stage, equipment is installed for 3 feeders, with 5 feeders reserved. On the 220kV side, the project expands and extends the busbars for 4 bays at the existing Thot Not 220kV Substation; initially, equipment is installed for 3 bays, with 1 bay reserved. On the 35kV side, the outdoor equipment system is connected to the single-phase transformer bank of AT3.
The control, protection, and measurement systems of the substation are synchronously equipped, consistent with the project scale, and meet the current technical regulations and standards of EVN and EVNNPT.
After being energized, the Thot Not 500kV Substation will contribute to ensuring power supply for the load in the Southwestern region, reducing the load on the 500/220kV transformers at the O Mon 500kV Substation and existing 220kV lines; at the same time, it creates conditions to absorb the capacity of thermal power plants and renewable energy sources in the area. The project also contributes to improving reliability, enhancing power system stability, meeting N-1 criteria, and ensuring the safety of the national power system operation.
