99.8% of Communes Connected to Electric grid Nationwide

By the end of 2015, 99.8% of communes and 98.7% of rural households across the country are connected to electric grid. It is the great effort of Vietnam Electricity in investment for bringing electric power to the rural and island areas.

During the 2011-2015 periods, EVN has mobilized and invested over USD 640 million and nearly VND 3,500 billion to implement rural energy projects nationwide.

Thanks to that, there are 99.8% of communes and 98.7% of rural households connected to electric grid. In particular, electric power reached to most of the border communes, contributing to agricultural settlement, developing the economy and preserving the security of border areas.

EVN has basically completed the work of taking over the low voltage rural network. As a result, 1.524 communes with 1.95 million households have been supplied with power by EVN and entitled to the Government preferential power tariff.

At the same time, the units under EVN undertook to rehabilitate and upgrade rural power networks in conformity with the criteria # 4 of the new rural development program, which helps reduce power losses and supply safe power source for the people.

To develop the economy of the Island Districts and contribute to defending the sovereignty of the sea and islands, EVN has supplied power to 9/12 the island districts, including the islands of Ly son (Quang Ngai province); Phu Quoc, Kien Hai (Kien Giang Province); Phu Quy (Binh Thuan Province); Van Don, Co To (Quang Ninh Province), Cat Hai (Hai Phong), Con Dao (Ba Ria-Vung Tau) and Bach Long Vy (Haiphong).

For  the island communes and districts holding strategic locations on the sea (such as Phu Quoc, Co To, Ly Son, Kien Hai), EVN invested to connect the national grid from the Mainland to the islands, aimed at  providing a stable power supply for the people and for economic development, contributing to the defense of the sovereignty of the nation’s sea and Islands.

Some islands of Kien Giang Province and Cham Island (Quang Nam province ) will also be connected to the national grid in the coming time.

In implementation of the  Rural, Mountainous and Island Electrification Program for 2013-2020 as approved by the Prime Minister under Decision No. 2081/QD-TTg dated 08/11/2013, EVN has completed investment preparation work for 21 provinces. EVN has set a target to 2020 that 100% of the communes and most of rural households are connected to electric grid.
