EVN’s employees have united to overcome difficulties and tried their best to accomplish 2023’s tasks

On January 2, in Hanoi, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) held a conference to review their work performance in 2023 and deploy tasks and plans for 2024. Although facing many unprecedented difficulties and challenges, EVN has made efforts to accomplish its mission of electricity supply and realize the year’s theme "Practicing thrift and combating waste".

Regarding Vietnam's power system scale, as of the end of 2023, the total installed capacity reached about 80,555MW, an increase of about 2,800MW over 2022. Of which, the total capacity of renewable energy is 21,664MW, accounting for 27% of the entire system. Thus, Vietnam is leading the ASEAN region in terms of installed capacity.

According to EVN's report at the conference, some main results of electricity production and supply situation in 2023 included: The total electricity production and import reached 280.6 billion kWh, 4.56% higher than the previous year; Power sales were estimated at 251.25 billion kWh, an increase of 3.52%. Regarding construction investment activities, despite many difficulties confronted, EVN and its units have made great efforts to overcome and proposed many solutions to best implement the goals and tasks set forth. The value of construction and investment activities implemented across the Group in 2023 is estimated at VND 90,997 billion.

EVN has been persistently paying much attention to the electricity supply for rural mountainous areas, islands, and island communes. By the end of 2023, the number of households having access to electricity reached 99.74%, of which the number of rural households being electrified achieved 99.60%. EVN has been investing in a project for grid-connected electricity supply to Con Dao district (Ba Ria - Vung Tau province) with a completion schedule in 2026.

Many technical indicators have been steadily well performed in 2023. EVN's power loss rate was 6.15%, 0.1% lower than 2022. Power supply reliability further improved, in which SAIDI across the Group decreased to 242 minutes (down 25 minutes compared to 2022).

In the business and customer service area, EVN has constantly promoted the application of information technology and digital transformation to improve service quality and diversify electricity services to meet the increasing requirements of customers and society. 100% of electricity services are provided online at level 4 at the National Public Service Portal, public administrative centers, and local Public Service Portals of provinces/cities. According to data published on the National Public Service Portal, last year EVN maintained its position in the top 3 in terms of quality of services provided to people and businesses for many consecutive months.

EVN's electricity-saving performance in 2023 was estimated to reach 1,815 million kWh. In addition, more than 11,730 customers consuming 1 million kWh/year or more have signed agreements with power companies to participate in non-commercial voluntary demand response (DR) programs, with an estimated DR potential of about 2,860MW.

It is forecasted that in 2024, EVN will further face a series of difficulties and challenges. The Group has developed a 2024 plan with many solutions to secure sufficient electricity supply for the country's socio-economic development with the targeted GDP growth rate of 6-6.5% in 2024 while ensuring financial balance to ensure the Group's sustainable development in production, business, investment, and development activities.

The EVN's report clearly stated that the Group aims to focus all efforts on electricity supply for the country's socio-economic development and people's lives; implementing power generation and power grid projects on schedule; carrying out assigned tasks on building the electricity market according to the roadmap approved by the Prime Minister; improving production, business efficiency, and labor productivity; continuing the process of corporate restructuring, rearrangement, and renovation, perfecting the organizational apparatus for sustainable development; further accelerating digital transformation in the Group's areas of operation.

Some expected targets and main tasks of EVN in 2024:

  • Power sales: from 262.26 - 269.3 billion kWh
  • Percentage of auxiliary power used for transmission and distribution: not exceeding 6.05%
  • Labor productivity increases by over 8%
  • Investment capital plan of the entire Group: VND 101,911 billion
  • Striving to ensure financial balance, preservation, and development of State capital
