The Bac Ai Pumped Storage Hydropower Project (4 units, total capacity of 1,200MW) plays a critically important role in “peak shaving and baseload filling” of the load curve. When completed (expected in 2030), Vietnam’s first pumped storage hydropower plant will also be the largest and most modern in Southeast Asia. To date, the internal access road system (VH1, VH2, VH3A) serving construction and operation, with a total length of several tens of kilometers, has basically been completed, ensuring smooth access for heavy vehicles and contributing to accelerated construction progress. The construction package for underground works is one of the most challenging components of the project. Contractors have introduced many technical innovations, optimizing blasting and earth–rock transportation processes to speed up progress. In 2025, the site completed the connection of construction and operation access roads; finished excavation of open foundations for major structures; and carried out excavation of power cable tunnels, drainage tunnels, construction tunnels, and ventilation tunnels. The Song Cai Reservoir, part of the Tan My irrigation system, provides the water source for operating the Bac Ai Pumped Storage Hydropower Plant.

After the site inspection, EVN Vice President Pham Hong Phuong will hold a site coordination meeting with EVNPMB3 and the contractors.
