Innovation, mastering technology
One of the most notable recent achievements in the field of electrical engineering is the successful manufacturing, in 2024, of a 500kV transformer with a capacity of 3x300MVA by Dong Anh Electrical Equipment Corporation – Joint Stock Company (EEMC). This is the transformer with the largest capacity on the national grid today.

This achievement has continued to extend EEMC's tradition of innovative research. Previously, the unit had mastered the technology to manufacture high-voltage transformers (110kV, 220kV, and 500kV). As the team moved on to manufacturing units with capacities of up to 900MVA, they continued to face and overcome significant engineering pressures.
Another outstanding technological milestone is the conversion of 220kV substations to an unmanned operation mode. Mr. Luu Viet Tien, Vice President of the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), stated that, under EVN’s guidance, the development of unmanned substations has yielded tangible results, particularly in improving labor productivity. Over the past 10 years, EVNNPT's 220kV substations have increased by more than 70%, while the number of workers serving the operation of 220kV substations has decreased by more than 50%. In parallel with the transformation of the substation model, EVNNPT has conducted training, arranged workers, and changed the production organization model to improve operational reliability.
EVNNPT has implemented a wide range of technology applications, including the development of unmanned substation operation monitoring centers; the digitization of 100% of transmission grid equipment data on the PMIS technical management platform; and the use of drones and artificial intelligence in transmission line operation and maintenance, among others. Thereby, promoting the roadmap for building a smart grid, towards the target of modernizing and automating the electricity industry.
In recent times, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and its member units have been actively advancing research, science and technology applications, and automation initiatives. From 2021 to 2025, EVN has 4 products recognized as "Make in Vietnam". Numerous projects and products from EVN units have been featured in the ‘Golden Book of Vietnamese Creativity’ and consistently recognized with accolades, including the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards.
By 2025, EVN will have reached the target of becoming a digital enterprise. EVN and its units leverage digital technologies and data to enhance operational efficiency, drive innovation, optimize costs, improve customer experience and satisfaction, boost labor productivity, and ensure a reliable power supply for socio-economic development.
Large development space from Resolution 57
EVN is a state-owned enterprise that plays a pivotal role in the energy sector, which is experiencing significant changes driven by scientific and technological advancements, digital transformation, and the demands of a sustainable energy transition. Acknowledging its responsibilities, EVN has established steering committees and issued plans and task lists for the development of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation for the 2025–2030 period, to become a fully digital enterprise and advance toward a smarter EVN.

From 2021 to 2025, units within EVN having won 4 “Make in VietNam” awards.
Technology is transforming Vietnam’s power system, making it more modern, transparent, and aligned with international standards. The orientation of innovation and digital transformation according to Resolution 57-NQ/TW opens up a wide space for development, helping EVN continue to improve management efficiency, increase productivity, and consolidate its core role in the journey to ensure power for the economy to grow rapidly and sustainably.
