In the first three months of this year, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) ensured a safe and stable power supply for the economy, while proactively implementing operational and investment solutions to meet electricity demand during peak months and throughout 2026.

On March 31, in Hanoi, Acting Minister of Industry and Trade Le Manh Hung chaired the conference reviewing Q1/2026 performance and outlining tasks for the following quarters. The conference was held both in person and online, connecting with provincial Departments of Industry and Trade and Vietnam’s trade offices abroad.

Representing EVN, the Group’s President and CEO, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, attended and delivered a report at the conference.

Ensuring electricity supply for the economy

Reporting at the conference, EVN CEO Nguyen Anh Tuan stated that amid geopolitical developments affecting fuel supply, EVN proactively implemented operational solutions to ensure electricity supply for socio-economic development and people’s daily needs, particularly maintaining safe and stable power supply for major national events.

In Q1/2026, total electricity generation and imports of the entire system were estimated at 76.1 billion kWh, up 5.5% year-on-year; power sales reached approximately 68.47 billion kWh, an increase of 7%. In addition, the Group successfully completed two water discharge periods to support irrigation for the Winter-Spring crop season in the Northern midland and Red River Delta regions, ensuring agricultural production while significantly conserving water resources.

Amid the risk of fuel supply disruptions due to global conflicts, EVN proactively implemented flexible operational measures and coordinated with fuel suppliers to minimize risks to its power generation and supply activities.

Accelerating investment and preparing for the dry season peak

EVN’s investment and construction activities continued to show positive progress, with disbursed value reaching nearly VND 21 trillion in Q1, equivalent to 17% of the annual plan. Many key power generation projects, such as Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant, LNG projects Quang Trach II and III, as well as hydropower expansion projects, are being actively accelerated in line with the schedule.

Regarding the transmission grid, EVN energized an estimated 37 projects, including 2 projects at 500kV, 5 at 220kV, and 30 at 110kV, focusing on enhancing transmission capacity, regional interconnection, and preparing for rising electricity demand in the near future. In addition, more than 40 projects ranging from 110kV to 500kV have been commenced.

In the coming period, EVN identifies its key tasks as ensuring electricity supply during peak dry-season months, improving system operational reliability, and accelerating the progress of major power source and grid projects, thereby continuing to affirm its core role in safeguarding national energy security.
