EVN officially receives Phu My 2.2 BOT Power Plant

The signing ceremony of the minutes of handover and acceptance of the Phu My 2.2 BOT Power Plant (PMPP2) between the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), Mekong Energy Company Limited, and Vietnam Electricity (EVN) was held on the morning of February 4 in Hanoi.

On the side of MOIT, the attendants at the ceremony included Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long and representatives of relevant departments and agencies of MOIT.

On the side of Vietnam Electricity (EVN), there was Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan – EVN’s President and CEO, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Nam – EVN’s Vice President, Mr. Ngo Son Hai - EVN’s Vice President and representatives of EVN’s professional departments.

On behalf of Mekong Energy Company Limited, the attendants at the ceremony included Mr. Augusto Soares Dos Reis, General Director.

PMPP2 is located in Phu My Power Center, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, with a total capacity of 715MW using combined cycle gas turbine technology. This is the first BOT (build - operate - transfer) project in Vietnam licensed by international bidding.

The project began commercial operation on February 4, 2005. Up to now, the plant has completed its operating period as stipulated in the BOT Contract to transfer to the Vietnamese side, represented by Vietnam Electricity. This is the second BOT plant to be transferred in this form.

Since its operation, PMPP2 has supplied more than 90 billion kWh to the national grid, contributing to ensuring power supply for production and daily life, and the socio-economic development of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province in particular and the southern provinces and cities in general.

After taking over, EVN will continue to exploit and operate the Plant effectively. It is expected that the Plant will contribute about 4.6 billion kWh of power per year to the national power system, contributing to ensuring national energy security and stabilizing the power system, serving socio-economic development.

Previously, at 0:00 on February 4, 2025, EPS Company (a unit under Power Generation Corporation 3 - JSC) officially took over the operation, maintenance, and repair of PMPP2 under a service contract with EVN.
