On 15 April 2025, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 768/QD-TTg, approving the adjustment of the National Power Development Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision of 2050. Accordingly, Thai Nguyen Province will have more renewable energy projects, making an important contribution to the locality's sustainable development target.
One of the highlights of the new National Power Development Plan is that Thai Nguyen will add 4 small hydropower projects with a total capacity of 30MW, helping to effectively utilize clean energy sources and improve flood control capacity on the Cau River. At the same time, the province will also implement a floating solar power project on Nui Coc Lake, with a capacity of up to 220MW.
In addition, rooftop solar power projects in the province are expected to provide about 1,019MW. In addition, the province also has two biomass power plants in Dinh Hoa and Vo Nhai, with a total capacity of 10MW.
Previously, on 28 December 2024, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 1682/QD-TTg to add the BPC Vo Nhai Wind Power Plant to the National Power Development Plan VIII, with an expected capacity of 100MW. The project is invested by Bitexco Energy Joint Stock Company and is expected to start measuring wind from July 2025 to July 2026.

After completing legal procedures in 2027, the Plant will start construction in 2028. The expected scale includes 24 wind turbines, a capacity of 100MW, with a total investment of VND 3,000 to VND 4,000 billion. Phase 1 of the project, with a capacity of 50MW, will commence operation in 2029. Meanwhile, Phase 2, with the remaining capacity of 50MW, will be completed in 2030. The land area used for this Project is about 35ha.
With these projects, Thai Nguyen is expected to add about 1,400MW of electricity capacity by 2030, raising the province's total electricity capacity to 2,500MW, surpassing the target of 2,210MW in the Provincial Planning.
