At 12:00 on April 12, 2026, at the Quang Trach Power Center (Quang Tri Province), Unit 1 of the Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant was successfully synchronized with the grid for the first time. The project is invested by Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and directly managed and operated by Power Project Management Board 2 (EVNPMB2).

The initial grid connection was carried out to serve testing, calibration, and acceptance of the unit’s systems and equipment before official operation. During this process, the unit was synchronized with the national power system, while the operation of the turbine, generator, and control systems was tested in accordance with technical procedures.

The results of the initial synchronization show that the unit’s key technical parameters meet design requirements, operating stably and safely. This provides an important basis for the involved parties to proceed with subsequent testing steps, moving toward completing the entire acceptance process before commercial operation.

This event marks a significant transition of the project from the construction phase to the commissioning and testing phase. It also affirms the organizational and implementation capacity of the investor, the Project Management Board, and all participating units in bringing a large-scale power project to completion as scheduled.

Once operational, the Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant (comprising two units with a total capacity of 1,403MW) will contribute to strengthening electricity supply for the national power system, particularly during peak demand periods. The timely completion of the first grid connection is especially meaningful in the context of rising electricity demand, especially during the hot season.

In the coming time, EVN and EVNPMB2 will continue to coordinate with relevant units to complete the remaining works, accelerate testing and calibration, and bring Unit 1 into stable, safe, and efficient operation.

The Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant Project is one of the key power generation projects under the national power development plan, contributing to ensuring national energy security.
