Delegates performed a symbolic act of attaching board of Dung Quat Power Complex site
At the ceremony, Mr. Le Van Luc - Deputy Director of the Electricity and Renewable Energy Agency announced Decision No. 2612/QD-BCT dated July 25, 2018 of the Ministry of Industry and Trade approving the adjustment of Central Gas Power Center – Dung Quat Power Complex site planning.
Dung Quat Power Complex is planned to be built in Dung Quat Economic Zone, Binh Thanh Commune, Binh Son District, Quang Ngai Province. According to the adjusted contents, Dung Quat III (Central III) combined cycle gas turbine power plant with a capacity of about 750MW, invested by EVN, is additionally included in the plan, being located at the contingency site within Dung Quat Power Complex construction site. The plant will use gas from Blue Whale gas field, expectedly to be put into operation from 2024 - 2026.
Dung Quat Power Complex will comprise three combined cycle gas turbine power plants with a capacity of about 750MW per each. In which: Dung Quat I and Dung Quat III power plants will be invested by EVN, scheduled to be put into operation in 2023 and 2024 – 2026, respectively; Dung Quat II BOT power plant will be invested by Sembcorp (Singapore), scheduled to be put into operation in 2024, having a contingency area planned to develop one more combined gas turbine power plant with a capacity of about 750MW.
According to Mr. Le Van Luc, three combined cycle gas turbine power plants Dung Quat I, II, and III and the Shared Infrastructure project being planned at Dung Quat Power Complex site have a total investment cost of about USD 2.5 billion.

With a total capacity of 2,250MW, three power plants in Dung Quat Power Complex will have an annual average electricity output of about 13 billion kWh, which will make an important contribution to ensuring the electricity supply for socio-economic development in the Central region in particular and transmit electricity to the South through the 500kV transmission line system.
The development of power plants will promote the socio-economic development of Quang Ngai province, as well as contribute significantly to the national budget. Therefore, project developers and local authorities need to enhance their responsibilities for the completion of power plants.

The representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed that the Provincial People's Committee, departments, agencies, Dung Quat Economic Zone Management Board, local authorities and local residents in project areas should create the most favorable conditions for investors. EVN should give directions to the Power Project Management Board No.1 and relevant organizations in technology selection and making plan to implement the project in a quality satisfactory and efficient manner.
According to EVN’s Vice President Nguyen Tai Anh, combined cycle gas turbine power plants Dung Quat I, II and III will use advanced thermal technologies with high capacity and efficiency. EVN has gained a lot of experience in investing in and constructing large scale thermal power complexes across the country.
