The launching ceremony for the 2026 Earth Hour and summer peak campaign on energy saving and efficiency in Hanoi was held on the morning of March 28, 2026, at Thong Nhat Park, Hai Ba Trung Ward. Within the framework of the program, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) called on the community to use electricity economically and efficiently in daily life and production, thereby contributing to ensuring a stable power supply for the economy and people’s lives.

The event was organized by the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade in coordination with units under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Hanoi Power Corporation (EVNHANOI), with the participation of representatives from management agencies, businesses, and the community.

On the side of Vietnam Electricity (EVN), EVN Vice President Ngo Son Hai and Head of EVN’s Communications and Corporate Culture Department Trinh Mai Phuong attended the event.

Speaking at the event, EVN Vice President Ngo Son Hai said that EVN is focusing on demand management (DSM) solutions, especially for large electricity consumers with the ability to adjust their load. Vietnam Electricity (EVN) is actively promoting the application of technology to enable customers to proactively monitor, control, and optimize their electricity consumption, while coordinating with local authorities, regulatory agencies, and social organizations to maintain targeted communication activities for each customer segment, aiming to raise awareness and transform energy use behavior across the community.

According to EVN leaders, efficient electricity use not only reduces costs for businesses and people but also enhances competitiveness and meets the requirements for green development and low emissions.

In addition, this year's power system is also predicted to continue facing many challenges as the El Niño phenomenon may persist, increasing temperatures, and affecting hydropower sources. To ensure energy supply security, particularly during peak summer months, in addition to measures to balance supply and manage load, the efficient and economical use of electricity by customers is considered a key solution for alleviating pressure on the power system.

Mr. Ngo Son Hai believes that for these solutions to be effective, the synchronized participation of the whole society is needed. Enterprises should enhance energy management to optimize costs and improve their adaptability to green development requirements; for the public, widespread adjustments in daily electricity usage habits would generate positive benefits for the power system.

At the launching ceremony, on behalf of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Mr. Dang Hai Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion, called on ministries, sectors, localities, and especially the business community to proactively grasp new technologies and consider energy management as the core of sustainable development.   For individuals, the campaign encourages behavioral changes through simple daily actions, including switching off electrical devices when not in use, replacing energy-intensive equipment with high-efficiency alternatives, and fostering a civilized and energy-efficient lifestyle.

The launching ceremony for the Earth Hour campaign, a summer peak in energy saving and efficiency in 2026 in Hanoi, is an annual event organized by the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade in coordination with the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion - Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Department of Innovation - Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Hanoi Power Corporation. The program aims to sustain and promote energy-saving and energy-efficiency initiatives with strong community-wide impact, while honoring organizations and individuals across the city who actively contribute to ensuring a reliable power supply, conserving energy and resources, and protecting a sustainable living environment.

Within the framework of this year's program, especially during the hours from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, many activities will take place simultaneously with the Earth Hour lights-off ceremony.

Over the years, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and its member units have actively collaborated with Hanoi authorities to implement a range of energy-saving solutions, thereby delivering positive outcomes.

Some electricity saving targets for Hanoi City in 2026 include:

Saving 1.6% – 1.8% of total energy compared to projected demand;

Achieving a minimum of 2.2% electricity savings in each consumption area;

Reduce power losses to below 3.5%.
