Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung triggered the construction of 500kV transmission line circuit 3 projects

On December 18, 2018, Viet Nam Electricity/the National Power Transmission Corporation organized a groundbreaking ceremony for 500kV transmission line projects including: Quang Trach - Vung Ang, 500kV switchyard of Quang Trach Power Complex, Quang Trach - Doc Soi and Doc Soi - Pleiku 2, at Dai Quang commune, Dai Loc district, Quang Nam province. Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung attended the ceremony and commanded project construction commencement.

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung spoke at the Groundbreaking Ceremony

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung affirmed that the investment of additional 500kV transmission lines circuit 3 was very urgent, because there would be a rising likelihood of power shortage in the South in the coming years, whereas the investment in power generation projects in this region was behind schedule, the existing 500kV transmission lines were full of load, and occasionally overloaded.

In 2018, it is estimated that the South consumes about 90 billion kWh, accounting for 47% of the total power consumption nationwide, meanwhile the regional power sources supply only less than 35%. The Central and Northern regions consume 53%, but the power supplies there account for more than 60% of the country's electricity output.

Delegates performed the symbolic act to start the 500kV transmission line circuit 3 projects

Given the significant implication of these projects, due to the fact that no large scale power projects have started recently, the Prime Minister has given specific directions to solve difficulties and obstacles with special mechanisms on investment procedures, land acquisition and site clearance so that the projects can start and come into operation to ensure power supply for the South in the future.

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung acknowledged and praised the efforts of Viet Nam Electricity, the National Power Transmission Corporation and related organizations in actively implementing the projects; as well as the drastic participation of ministries, agencies and authorities in localities where the projects were located. At the same time, he requested that the project must be implemented in a safe, good quality, efficient and timely manner.

Chairman of EVN’s Board of Directors - Mr. Duong Quang Thanh stated that the projects were scheduled to be put into operation from mid-2020 to ensure power supply for the South.

These are fast track projects in the National Power Development Plan with the goal of transmitting electricity from Quang Trach Power Center to the national power system; enhancing the transmission capacity of the 500kV grid, linking the regions, making an important contribution to securing electricity for the South in the coming period, as well as to economically operating the national power system.

The total investment cost of the projects is over VND 11,949 billion, with the target of putting the projects into operation from the middle of 2020. Viet Nam Electricity (EVN) has assigned the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) to be project investor, the Central Power Project Management Board (CPMB) on behalf of EVNNPT to manage the projects.
