EVN and GIZ hold talk show on Equitable Energy Transition, Digital Transformation and Gender Equality

The Talk show on Equitable Energy Transition, Digital Transformation and Gender Equality was organized by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in collaboration with Vietnam Electricity (EVN) from October 24 to 27.

Attending the opening session on the afternoon of October 24 in Hanoi, there was Mr. Vo Quang Lam – EVN Vice President and Ms. Regina Ecker - Country Director of GIZ in Vietnam - Laos.

Experts and guests include Mr. Peter Govindasamy - Chairman of the Katowice Committee on Impacts of the implementation of response measures, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change; Mr. Koos Neefjes - Climate Change Specialist and Director of Climate Sense Vietnam; Ms. Vu Chi Mai - GIZ senior expert; Ms. Julia Behrens - Director of the Climate & Energy Asia Project at the FES Institute; Mr. Pham Ngoc Toan - Institute of Labor Science and Social Affairs, under the Ministry of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs; Mr. Vo Xuan Hoai - Deputy Director of the National Innovation Center.

The talk show jointly organized by GIZ and EVN is an opportunity for the parties to exchange and grasp new trends in energy transition, digital transformation as well as gender equality activities in the energy sector in Vietnam and around the world.

According to EVN Vice President Vo Quang Lam, the equitable energy transition will change all aspects of society and create many new job opportunities and professions, as well as create conditions for women to become the driving force contributing to the development of the green energy industry in Vietnam.

On the first day of the program, the delegates listened to presentations by experts on equitable energy transition and digital transformation in the energy transition process, and participated in two talk show sessions with the contents: "Conditions for the equitable energy transition in Vietnam" and "Digital transformation to realize carbon emission reduction target".

Ms. Regina Ecker - Country Director of GIZ in Vietnam - Laos, said that GIZ will always actively support and cooperate with Vietnam in general and EVN in particular to contribute to promoting the sustainable energy development road map in Vietnam, including implementing an equitable energy transition while promoting Vietnam to achieve its commitments to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

According to experts, the energy transition brings more opportunities than risks for Vietnam in terms of economy, society and environment. In particular, some challenges that need special attention in starting the energy transition process to ensure equity are risks of land conflicts, ensuring livelihoods and jobs for local people, vocational training and preparing human resources, ensuring welfare regimes and basic labor rights, etc.

Along with the very active electrification process and the development of distributed energy sources, digital transformation is contributing to reducing the energy supply-demand gap, and at the same time creating digital platforms for energy consumers can directly interact in the real-time supply-demand balance. Digital transformation can encourage consumers of all load components to actively participate in energy system operations. Digital technologies have the potential to promote energy systems in Vietnam towards enhancing connectivity and smart, efficient, reliable and sustainable operations.

EVN Vice President Vo Quang Lam emphasized that the issues discussed in the program revolved around issues that Vietnam's and the world's power sector are very interested in, which are the dispersibility of energy sources, striving to reduce carbon emissions, digital transformation trends and strengthen the women’s role in digital transformation.

EVN Vice President also thanked the experts, guests and partners of GIZ for participating in the talk show as well as supporting EVN in the past time, and wished to continue receiving the support and cooperation of GIZ in the coming time.

The second working day of the talk show program will delve into the following topics: Digital transformation to promote the development of the Power sector and Digital transformation to contribute to enhancing women’s role. Evn.com.vn will continue to provide information about this program.
