According to a Burmese representative, at the end of 2016, Myanmar had electrified up to 100% of the communes, however only 49.7% of the villages and 38% of the households had access to electricity. Currently, 7.1 million households in Myanmar have yet to be electrified.
The rural electrification in Myanmar aims to reach up to 50% of total households having access to electricity by the year 2020 and this proportion is expected to reach 100% by 2050.
Sharing experiences of Vietnam in this field, EVN’s Vice President Nguyen Tan Loc said that until the end of 2016, Vietnam has connected the national power grid to 99.98% of rural communes and 98.95% of rural households. All the resources from the society have been mobilized to perform rural electrification, and EVN plays a fundamental role in this process. In addition, the people’s active participation, especially from the direct beneficiaries, has brought about great success for rural electrification. Many households voluntarily donated land without requiring compensation money for erecting power lines or electrical poles, etc. At the same time, consistent technical standards have been issued for rural electricity networks, facilitating the performance of rural electrification. Currently, there have been around 200,000 rural households in Vietnam have not had access to electricity yet. It is expected that by 2020, 100% of households will be connected to the national power grid in Vietnam.
