EVN works with Nam Sam 3 Power Company Limited on projects’ progress serving electricity import from Laos to Vietnam

On May 14, in Hanoi, Vietnam Electricity (EVN)’s Vice President Pham Hong Phuong worked with Mr. Somlath Mekakath - Director of Nam Sam 3 Power Company Limited (Laos) on the implementation progress of Nam Sum - Nong Cong 220kV transmission line and connection lines project to serve the electricity import from hydropower plants in Nam Sum cluster (Laos) to Vietnam.

Mr. Somlath Mekakath discussed the progress of projects in Laos including lines, a switchyard, and Nam Sum 3 Hydropower Plant. In particular, Nam Sum 3 - Nam Sum Switchyard 220kV transmission line project (42km long) and the transmission line project from Nam Sum Switchyard - Border (2.4km) have completed construction and are undergoing testing and calibration. It is expected that these projects will be energized in May 2024.

Nam Sum Switchyard has completed the construction of main project items and is expected to be energized at the end of May 2024.

 

Two sides discuss projects progress

As for Nam Sum 3 Hydropower Plant, unit 1 is scheduled to complete installation on May 31, 2024, and is ready to be energized before June 15, 2024. Units 2 and 3 are scheduled to complete installation on July 20, 2024, and are ready to be energized before July 30, 2024.

Reporting at the meeting, the representative of EVN’s Power Market Department said that Nam Sum - Nong Cong 220kV transmission line project (section in Vietnam's territory) is owned by EVNNPT. To date, the project has completed casting foundations for 261/299 towers; completed erection of 250/299 towers; and completed 35/99 spans.

At the meeting, the two sides also discussed the progress of implementing procedures for energizing and COD of Nam Sum 3 Hydropower Plant and related procedures for electricity trading between Vietnam and Laos.
