This sub - project under the project "Installation of 500 / 220kV transformer at Pleiku 2 500 kV Substation and its associated 220kV connection" is invested by the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), and managed by the Central Power Project Management Board (CPMB).
Energizing the second transformer has played an important role in mitigating loads on the first transformer (450 MVA AT2 transformer, being operational since June 10, 2016), facilitating a flexible operation mode and enhancing the safety and reliability of the regional power grid.
Pleiku 2 500 kV Substation receives energy from hydropower plants including Xekaman 1, Xekaman San-xay, Upper Xekong 3 and Lower Xekong 3 from Laos to Vietnam via the Xekaman 1 - Pleiku 2 220 kV transmission line in order to provide electricity to the Central Region - Central Highlands and the Southern provinces.
At the same time, the power grid interconnection contributes to ensuring sustainable energy development in the context of international integration; diminishing power losses and enabling an optimal dispatch and operation of the power system.
