From 13 June 2023, Nghi Son 1 Thermal Power Plant to add more 7 million kWh for Northern power grid

Mr. Vo Manh Ha - Director of Nghi Son Thermal Power Company, under Power Generation Corporation 1 - the unit that manages and operates Nghi Son 1 Thermal Power Plant said: Unit 1 of the plant had a problem on 5 June 2023, it is expected that on 13 June 2023, the repair and check of equipment will be completed to be ready for operation, contributing to providing additional 7 million kWh per day to the Northern power grid, reducing the pressure on power supply for the Northern region.

Specifically, right after unit 1 had a problem, the company focused all of the plant's manpower and ancillary service units outside to carry out repair work. Up to 10 June 2023, Nghi Son Thermal Power Company has basically completed the repair work and will carry out the cleaning of the furnace to avoid the phenomenon of ash formation. Tomorrow, 11 June 2023, the company will check and re-weld the pipeline, repair the pipe walls, and weld the pipes, and at the same time check the entire steam generator system to be ready for 13 June 2023, when the unit can be operated again.

Repair of unit 1 facing many difficulties due to narrow furnace space and high temperature in furnace.

"Regarding the fuel supply for generation, currently the amount of coal inventory and the amount of coal supplied by TKV under the contract are guaranteed, so the fuel issue for generation is no longer an important issue at present" - Director Director of Nghi Son Thermal Power Company said.

In hot weather conditions, the units operate at maximum capacity, so there is a high risk of incidents. In order to ensure continuous and safe generation, the company has implemented regular and continuous monitoring and checking. "We have to control the fire mode of the furnace, avoid the phenomenon of ash and slag formation, and at the same time minimize the situation of the steam pipe bursting, and promptly detect and handle defects and potential problems that reduce the capacity of the unit, etc. All of the above activities are to ensure stable operation of the unit and be ready to meet the mobilization of the National Load Dispatch Center "- Mr. Vo Manh Ha shared.

Overview of Nghi Son Thermal Power Plant

Previously, Nghi Son 1 Thermal Power Plant had also completed the minor repair of unit 2 in accordance with the adjustment plan, ensuring the repair quality, and the operation of the electricity market in accordance with regulations.

Regarding technical management solutions to ensure safe and reliable operation in the following months of 2023, the company has focused on implementing solutions: Improving sense of responsibility, operating discipline (focus on improving the reliability and availability of the unit in the dry season 2023); Continuously monitoring the working status of key equipment; Periodically checking and running equipment and power systems: baterries, diesel generators, backup pumps, etc. to ensure that backup devices are ready to operate; Preparing materials, equipment and human resources to handle and overcome equipment failures and defects; Planing operation for special cases that may occur; Strengthenning check of fire and explosion work to ensure that there is no risk of fire and explosion, ready to respond if there is a fire and explosion incident; implementing solutions to save electricity at the plant as well as at residence, encouraging employees to propagate to their families and relatives to save electricity; at the same time, the company ensures enough coal and oil fuel for the generation unit in the following months to complete the 2023 plan assigned by EVNGENCO1.

Also related to the power supply, information from Thai Binh 2 Thermal Power Plant, Mr. Nguyen Huu Vinh - Deputy Head of Thai Binh 2 Petroleum Thermal Power Project Management Board said: After the temporary shutdown for repair, this morning unit S2 has been restarted and the electricity output supplied to the North will reach 13 million kWh/day ".

Thus, from 13 June 2023, after the operation of two units of Nghi Son Thermal Power Plant and Thai Binh 2 Thermal Power Plant, they will generate the northern power grid with an additional 20 million kWh per day.
