The submarine cable project to connect the Cham island, Quang Nam province to the national grid was approved by the Government for investment in May 2014. The project scope includes 15.48 km of 22kV submarine cable,17.214 km of 22kV overhead lines; six 22/0, 4kV distribution substations with a total capacity of 900 kVA; 11 km of 0.4 kV low voltage line and ancillary items, with a total investment of VND 484.815 billion, of which 85% of the investment is financed from the national budget and the remaining 15% is financed by EVNCPC. The project is expected to be completed before June 30, 2016.
The commencement of the submarine cable project to connect the Cham Island to the national grid to be deployed means that the people on the island will be provided with a stable, adequate, high quality power supply, and provided with development opportunities, comfortable life and prosperity; contributing to the realization of social and economic development, building solid defensive posture, protecting the integrity of the Sea Island sovereignty of the Fatherland.
Mr. Duong Quang Thanh, the Chairman of the EVN Board of Directors said:
"Vietnam Electricity always defines one of the central tasks, always given with the first priority is to bring the power to the remote, border and Island areas, the areas of difficult conditions. To date, the EVN has supplied power for 9 out of 12 island districts including Ly Son (Quang Ngai province); Phu Quoc, Kien Hai (Kien Giang province); Phu Quy (Binh Thuan province); Van Don, Co To (Quang Ninh province), Cat Hai (Hai Phong), Con Dao (Ba Ria-Vung Tau), Bach Long Vy (Hai Phong). For the island districts and communes that have a strategic locations on the sea such as Phu Quoc, Co To, Ly Son, Kien Hai, EVN has invested to connect the national grid from mainland to islands to provide a stable power supply serving the living of the people and economic development, contributing to protection of the Sea Island sovereignty of the Fatherland.
Upon completion, the project will provide a stable source of electricity with more than 16MVA for the people on the island, providing opportunities for infrastructure, social and economic development, especially exploitation to maximum level of tourism strength and political stability on the island, building solid defensive posture, protecting the integrity of the Sea Island sovereignty of the Fatherland”.
The Central Power Corporation hopes to receive the collaboration and support from the local authorities and people to implement the project smoothly, safely, with the good quality and progress as scheduled to supply power for the people on the Cham island.
