According to the report of NS2PC - the project investor, the project started construction on 18 July 2018. The project has a total capacity of 1,200MW, including 02 units, the electricity output from 7-8 billion kWh/year.
This is one of the very few coal-fired power plants in Vietnam using supercritical technology with high efficiency, which significantly reduces coal consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental problems. The plant applies a high standard environmental monitoring program, continuously automatic emission monitoring, builds environmental protection works such as NOx, SO2 removal system, electrostatic precipitator and wastewater treatment system.
For the project to release its full capacity under the investor’s request, in the past time, EVN has invested in Nghi Son 500kV substation (energized in October 2021) and the 500kV transmission line connected Nghi Son 2 BOT TPP to the national power system (energized in July 2021). These two projects were completed on schedule as committed, thereby helping to release the capacity of Nghi Son 2 BOT TPP.
In the coming time, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that NS2PC should continue to focus on training and fostering staff to gradually master technological equipment; It is necessary to fully comply with the regulatory process, ensuring absolute safety for production, especially the worker’s safety during the production operation. The plant need to pay close attention to working conditions, labor equipment, life and health of engineers, technicians and workers as well as strict control compliance with environmental standards under the law.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade and EVN are interested in supporting, guiding and creating the most favorable conditions for investors in the production and business operation process, ensuring the highest mobilization of the plant's capacity in providing stable electricity for production and consumption, ensuring the overall economic efficiency of the economy and investors.
This project is considered to be an example of the economic cooperation success between Vietnam, Japan and Korea.
