Promoting the application of science and technology and digital transformation in the technical management of the transmission grid

That is the request of Mr. Pham Le Phu - General Director of National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) at EVNNPT's 2022 Technical Conference. The conference took place on 28 July 2022, in Can Tho City.

Over the years, the transmission grid has been strongly invested to meet the requirements of high load growth, with an average growth rate of transmission output of about 8.3%/year. The 500kV transmission grid in the North and the South has formed link loop circuits and improved the safety and reliability of power transmission and power supply, especially for important loads such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi City,... The 220kV power grid in all regions is also continuously developed and consolidated.

From 2021 onwards, according to the report of EVNNPT, transmission power output has recovered. Which, in 2021, it reached 200.8 billion kWh, up 2% compared to 2020; The first 6 months of 2022 reached 104.7 billion kWh, up 2% over the same period in 2021.

The number of transmission grid failures in 2021 decreased by 58 incidents compared to 2020, and the first 6 months of 2022 decreased by 1 incident over the same period. EVNNPT has converted 110/142 220kV substations to the remote operation mode.

Applying science and technology and digital transformation into activities, EVNNPT has been applying many applications such as software for management of substations and lines; experimental management software; digital substation application; application of UAV/Flycam flying device, camera/AI camera, online oil monitoring device, online oil refining device, equipping fault location.

EVNNPT applies UAVs to test transmission grids

As of June 2022, EVNNPT operates more than 28,600 km of transmission lines (of which 500kV lines have a total length of 10,053 km, 220kV lines have a total length of 18,560 km), and 176 substations (including 34 500kV stations and 142 220kV stations).
