Workers of Kien Giang PC are erecting electric poles to supply electricity to Khmer households in Chau Thanh district
Life flourishes thanks to electricity
According to Mr. Hua Thanh Nhan - Director of Kien Giang PC, the project "Power supply for households without access to electricity, mainly Khmer ethnic minority people in Kien Giang province" has been carried out since 2012, supplying electricity to more than 15,000 households. The project is composed of the following items: Construction of more than 290 km of medium voltage lines, 806.5 km of low voltage lines and 379 substations with a total capacity of 4,900 kVA, etc. The project’s total investment cost is nearly VND 290 billion.
With a great deal of effort, up to now, most of the areas where Khmer people reside have been connected to the national power grid, satisfying the expectations of the people.
Ms. Thi Vui (Hai Ty hamlet, Ngoc Hoa commune), happily said: In the past, due to using electricity after main meters, the quality of electricity was fluttering and unstable. Since the grid electricity is available up to now, the life of the people in the hamlet has been much improved.
Ms. Vui (Hai Ty hamlet, Ngoc Hoa commune, Giong Rieng district) said that the grid electricity was very stable
Having electricity, local people start thinking about economic development. According to Mr. Hua Thanh Nhan - Director of Kien Giang PC, 13% of households in Kien Giang province are ethnic Khmer, mainly residing in Giong Rieng, Chau Thanh, Go Quao, Kien Luong districts, which are remote areas, having difficult socio - economic conditions, most of them live on agriculture, the rate of households having access to electricity is very low. Therefore, the effectiveness of the project has been creating a premise for local economic development, improving people's material and spiritual lives, making an important contribution to the industrialization of agriculture and rural areas.
