What solutions to reduce power losses in 2019?

With the goal of reducing power loss rate to 6.7% at the end of 2019, the top management of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) requests EVN’s member organizations to implement solutions synchronously.

At the meeting on solutions for power loss reduction on May 21, 2019, EVN’s President and CEO Tran Dinh Nhan emphasized that power loss reduction is a key task, contributing to ensuring electricity supply and improving production – business efficiency.

In governance and management, EVN has maintained the policy that the head of the unit is the head of power loss reduction steering committee, who at the same time allocates targets to responsible teams and persons, attaching power loss reduction targets to the evaluation of yearly performance of every collective and individual.

In operation management, EVN has kept on improving qualifications, skills and sense of discipline of power system operators. Load dispatch levels in coordination with transmission and distribution units perform optimal operation modes. Units have to enhance their examination and maintenance of grid equipment to avoid any subjective incidents that may worsen power losses, simultaneously implementing plans of installing capacitors assigned by the Group.

EVN’s President and CEO Tran Dinh Nhan requested member organizations to actively try out advanced and highly reliable technology and equipment. These organizations will annually report the results of new technology application to EVN for consideration and replication.

Member organizations should continue promoting live - line maintenance and repair; equipped with fault detection and preventive tools and facilities. In addition, the President and CEO asked these units to enhance the use of electronic meters with automatic meter reading, with high accuracy. Power corporations should promptly install general power meters at public substations and boundary meters to enhance the management of power losses.
