Bringing grid electricity to highland and border areas

After many years of waiting, up to now the national grid has basically supplied power to all the most remote villages and hamlets of Nghe An province.

The power has opened a new page, step by step helping people in the highland border areas confidently escape poverty. Today's achievements stem from the support of the Central Government, the determination of the Party Committee, local authorities, and the efforts of Nghe An Power Company (NAPC) to overcome difficulties throughout the years.

Deputy Director of Ky Son Power Unit (Nghe An) Bui Manh Cuong said that over the past three years, NAPC has installed more than 350 km of lines of all types and nearly 100 substations in about 90 hamlets,  villages in the most remote "border fence" area of ​​the province, including many high-altitude hamlets on the slopes of Puxailaileng mountain, at an altitude of more than 1,000 meters.

Deputy Director of NAPC Dang Thanh Vinh said: Implementing the Project of  Rural Power Supply from the national grid for Nghe An province approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the period 2020-2023, the Electricity industry has focused on the construction and installation of 650 km of medium and low voltage lines; 150 substations with a total capacity of more than 10,821KVA; Installation of nearly 14,600 electricity meters for households in the remaining 177 highland villages of districts of Ky Son, Que Phong, Tuong Duong, Quy Chau, etc. By the end of 2023, the system has basically been completed and supplied power for the above-mentioned villages and hamlets. The Electricity Industry is trying to "overcome the sun and beat the rain", completing the final stages to promptly supply power to ethnic people and border people to celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year of Giap Thin.

A few months ago, when they saw concrete electric poles, substations, and electric wires lined up in the villages and hamlets, everyone was happy, imagining electric lights illuminating the all over villages and hamlets every day. That joy came at the beginning of last October.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Ky Son district Nguyen Viet Hung said that now, in addition to ensuring power supply and lighting safety, localities are encouraging people to invest in electric equipment such as lawn choppers, lawn mowers, etc., livestock crop; cutting machines, welding machines for mechanical and construction services, etc., and retaining workers in the homeland to serve economic development. In the coming time, Ky Son will research mechanisms and policies to encourage and support businesses, cooperatives, and people to use power sources for production and business in the most effective way.
