Business performance in July 2018 and objectives, tasks in August 2018

In July 2018, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) ensured sufficient power supply for socio-economic development of the whole country and people’s daily activities in localities, especially ensured power supply in extremely hot weather, lasting long in a large area of the Northern and Central Vietnam at the beginning of July, 2018. Total produced and imported power output in July 2018 reached 19.57 billion kWh (average output is 631.3 million kWh/day), the highest daily output reached 725.7 million kWh (4th July, 2018) and the largest production capacity of the entire system is 35,128MW (3rd July, 2018). The accumulated output of 7 months of 2018 of the whole system reached 125.5 billion kWh, increasing by 11.7% compared with that of the same period of year 2017. EVN commercial power output in July 2018 was estimated at 17.15 billion kWh, increasing by 13.37% compared to that of the same period; Accumulated output of seven months of year 2018 was estimated at 108.92 billion kWh, increasing by 11.02% in comparison with that of the same period last year, of which domestic commercial power production increased by 11.1%.

EVN and its units have also coordinated closely with the Central Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention (under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) to regulate the large hydropower reservoirs in the North. Strictly perform closing/opening of discharge doors under the management of the Central Steering Committee in natural disaster prevention for Lai Chau, Son La, Hoa Binh and Tuyen Quang hydropower plants, ensuring the safety of the plans. The work of overcoming consequences of storm No. 3 and floods in some northern provinces has been implemented actively, restoration of power supply for customers as fast as possible.

In July 2018, the power transmission trend is still from the North to the Central and the South. The highest transmission level in the North-Central line is 1,970 MW and the figure for Central-South line is 3,580MW; power transmission output to the South is about 61.2 million kWh/day (equivalent to 23.7% of power demand by southern provinces). Some hydropower reservoirs with water flow higher than the average water flow of many years. The hydropower plants were highly mobilized in July 2018, the coal power sources, gas-fired turbines were mobilized properly in line with the actual situation.

Regarding power supply reliability indexes for the first 7 months of 2018, System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) is 409 minutes (decreasing by 23.9% compared with that of the same period of 2017). Momentary Average Interruption Frequency Index (MAIFI) is 0.99 times per customer; System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI) is 3.32 times per customer. Power loss of the Group in the first 7 months of 2018 is 6.86% which is 0.34% lower than the target set out for year 2018 (7.2%).

Regarding investment and construction, in July 2018 the Group completed the work of receiving power for testing the generating units of Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power expanded project.

Regarding power grid, EVN and its units have started 5 projects, energized and put 15 projects of 110 - 500kV into operation; As accumulated in 7 months, 65 projects were commenced and 96 projects (500 - 220kV: 20 projects, 110kV: 76 projects) were energized and put into operation.

In terms of divestment, EVN is continuing to carry out divestment procedures in five joint stock companies, including hiring valuation consultants and consultancy services to set up EVN divestment documents at EVNFinance, manage Representatives to complete divestment plan at PECC3, submit to the Board of Consultants for approving the starting price and EVN divestment plan at Thuan Binh Wind power Joint Stock Company (TBW).

Some tasks of EVN in August 2018

In August 2018, daily power consumption output of the whole system is expected to reach 629.4 million kWh/day; maximum load capacity is estimated at 32,265MW.

According to National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the flooding season of year 2018, in addition to storms and tropical depressions causing heavy rain, strong winds on the sea and  land, other dangerous weather phenomena probably occur nationwide, especially the thunderstorms, hail, partial heavy rain, flash floods and landslides in crutial areas in the northern mountainous provinces, sloping topography and weak vegetation zones. Therefore, EVN has set the target of operating power system in August 2018 as follows: Continue to strictly follow the process of inter-reservoir hydropower; prepare for disaster prevention, search and rescue, ensure dam safety as well as hydropower projects and downstream area; optimally exploit hydropower and thermal power; operate safely and reliably the transmission grid, especially the North - South 500kV system in high transmission conditions in the South; readily prepare for the power supply options subject to highly increasing load, especially in the North.

Regarding the investment in power construction: In August 2018, complete construction items to meet the conditions for 50,000-ton ships to moor and provide PAC generating unit 1 of Vinh Tan 4 thermal power plant; Completed the acceptance at Investor level and issue PAC for two thermal power plants in Thai Binh; ensure the progress of receiving power for testing the extended Duyen Hai 3 Thermal Power Project, etc. In terms of power grid, in August 2018, it is directed to ensure the construction progress to put following works into operation: 220kV Quang Ngai - Quy Nhon (phase 2), branch 1C, branch 220kV Western Hanoi , Long Phu - Soc Trang 220kV line, circuit 2 O Mon - Soc Trang, Can Duoc 220kV substation, etc.

In the equitization and divestment work of EVNGENCO, it is planned to carry out procedures for preparation of the first Shareholders’ Meeting and the establishment of EVNGENCO3 joint stock company and continue to deploy equitization steps of EVNGENCO 1 and 2; continue to divest EVN’s capital in 5 joint stock companies (Power Engineering Joint Stock Company, EVN Finance, Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 3 and 4 and Thuan Binh Wind Power Joint Stock Company).
