The member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai; the leaders of the central ministries and Quang Ninh province; Mr. Park Sang-Silk, commisioner of the South Korean Consul General in Vietnam; the Country Director of the Asia Development Bank (ADB) in Vietnam…The Mong Duong 1 Thermal Power Plant Project was owned and invested by the Power Generation Corporation No 3, managed by the Thermal Power Project Management Board No 1 on behalf of the project owner. The Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co.,Ltd (Korea) was the contractor responsible for equipment supply and installation.The Power Engineering Consulting Company No 1 (PECC1) was the consultant for the feasibility study and technical design. Porry (Switzerland) was the supervision consultant.
The Mong Duong 1 Thermal Power Plant is located at Zone 8 Mong Duong Ward, Cam Pha city, Quang Ninh province. It was commenced for construction of October 22,2011.
The Mong Duong 1 Thermal Power Plant is the project using Circulating Fluidizing Bed (CFB) technology with the capacity of 1080MW. The power plant consists of 2 generating units of 540 MW each. The annual energy is 6.5 billion kWh.The power from the power plant is evacuated to the national grid via 500 kV Quang Ninh – Mong Duong transmission line and the 500 kV Quang Ninh substation. This is one of the urgent power project included in the National Power Development Program for the period 2011-2020 with vision to 2030.
According to Mr. Duong Quang Thanh, the Chairman of EVN Board of Directors: The Mong Duong 1 Thermal Power Project, upon its completion and operation, will significantly contribute to the total capacity of the power system, increasing the reserve capacity for the system. It contributes to enhance safety and reliability for the power system, meet the power demand for socio-economic development of the important economic region of North-Eastern Vietnam in particular and Quang Ninh province in general. Especially, this power plant made Quang Ninh to be biggest thermal power center with capacity accounting for 18% of the total installed capacity of the country.
