Chairman of EVN's Member Council meets with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Vietnam

On 21 July 2020, the Chairman of Member Board (MB) of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) - Mr. Duong Quang Thanh received and worked with Mr. Park Noh-wan - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Korea Nation to Vietnam.

At the meeting, Ambassador Park Noh-wan on behalf of the Korean Government and Korean businesses thanked the Vietnamese Government, and EVN for the support in reduction of electricity price, and electricity bills for Korean businesses operating in Vietnam, helping such businesses to overcome difficulties caused by COVID-19 pandemic.

At the same time, the Ambassador said that he would soon work with the Korean Government and the Korea Eximbank, promote the signing of a framework agreement on support of USD 2-3 billion to help EVN invest in building key electricity projects in Vietnam in the coming time.

The Ambassador emphasized that cooperation in the field of electricity plays a key role in the relationship between Vietnam and Korea and hopes in the future, the relationship between the two countries as well as The cooperation between EVN and Korean enterprises will become better and better.

Sharing with the Ambassador, Chairman Duong Quang Thanh said that EVN has been ensuring enough power for the national socio-economic development; including ensuring enough power capacity for the operation of Korean businesses in Vietnam, such as industrial parks in Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen provinces, and so on.

The relationship between EVN and South Korean businesses is increasingly strengthened, with many Korean businesses participating in the construction of power plants in Vietnam such as Mong Duong 1 Thermal Power Plant, Trung Son 4 Hydropower Plant, Nghi Son 2 Thermal Power, Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plants.

EVN leaders wished the Korean businesses with good capacity and prestige to continue investing in and implementing power source and power transmission projects in Vietnam in the coming time, especially the projects of power and liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply, especially in the context that power supply will meet difficulties in the period 2021 - 2025.

Welcoming the comments and recommendations of the Ambassador and members of the delegation, the Chairman said he would assign the EVN’s Departments and units to promptly study, submit to the Board of Members or report them to the competent authorities for consideration and decision.
