The investment objective of this project is to enhance peaking capacity for the national power electricity, facilitating the maximum exploitation of excess water being discharged in the flood season every year of the present Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant to generate electricity.
At the same time, the project will improve the capability of frequency regulation and frequency stability of the national power system; contributing to reducing operation costs of the national power system. In addition, it helps alleviate the operation intensity of the existing power units, thereby extending the lifetime of equipment, saving maintenance and repair costs.
One of the objectives of Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Extension Project is to maximize the exploitation of excess water discharged during the flood season every year of the existing Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant.
Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Extension Project has a capacity of 2 x 240MW; the project will entail the construction of a new energy line, including: a channel to lead water to the intake, a water intake, a pipeline (penstock), a powerhouse, a downstream discharge channel and a grid connection system.
In addition, the project shares the existing facilities including the reservoir, the spillway, the dam, etc.
Power Project Management Board No.1 has been assigned by EVN to manage and implement the project. According to Mr. Pham Hong Phuong - Director of the PMB, in order to realize the target of commencing the project in the second quarter of 2020, right after the Decision of the Board of Directors of EVN, the PMB has focused on selecting contractors to implement project items to prepare for the construction commencement. At the same time, the PMB will perform the contractor selection for main bid packages of the project.
Power Project Management Board No.1 has been speeding up the establishment of the Project Steering Unit, stabilizing its standing office at the construction site, urging the consulting organization to finalize the technical design and construction drawing design. Along with that, the PMB will coordinate with the Center for Land Fund Development of Hoa Binh province to conduct land inventory, develop the compensation and site clearance plan.
This Project Management Board has been also assigned by EVN to manage and implement key national significant hydropower projects such as Son La and Lai Chau.
