Completion of Monsoon - Thanh My 500kV transmission line project in fourth quarter of 2024

On October 8 in Hanoi, EVN’s Vice President Nguyen Tai Anh and related units had a meeting with the investor of the Monsoon Wind Power Project (Laos) on the project progress in sync with the progress of the Monsoon - Thanh My 500kV transmission line. In the meeting, the EVN leader directed EVN’s member units to complete the Monsoon - Thanh My 500kV transmission line (section in Vietnam) in the fourth quarter of 2024.

The meeting was held in both offline and online formats.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the National Power System and Electricity Market Operation Company Limited - NSMO (Ministry of Industry and Trade); representatives of EVN's professional departments, Power Project Management Board 2 (EVNPMB2), the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), Electric Power Trading Company (EVNEPTC).

The Monsoon Wind Power investor was represented by Mr. Nat Hutanuwatr - Executive Director, and the general contractor's representative.

Reporting on the implementation status of the Monsoon - Thanh My 500kV transmission line project (section in Vietnam), the representative of EVNPMB 2 said that contractors have completed digging the foundations at 89/90 locations, reaching 98.8%; casting the foundations at 85/90 locations, reaching 95%; erecting towers at 46/90 locations, reaching 51%...

Regarding land clearance along the route corridor, compensation has been paid to 289/339 households. Currently, compensation is being paid to 48 households.

Units participating in meeting and reporting online

At the meeting, EVN’s Vice President Nguyen Tai Anh requested the Power Project Management Board 2 to take measures to adapt to construction during the rainy season to complete the foundation concreting work before October 28, 2024; complete tower erection before November 14, 2024; complete installation of porcelain, accessories, and wire pulling before November 30, 2024; acceptance and energization before December 21, 2024; and completion of the entire project in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Monsoon-Thanh My 500kV transmission line project and the Dak Ooc 220kV switchyard project, once completed, will be responsible for transmitting power from the Monsoon Wind Power Plant (600MW) and hydropower plants from Laos to Thanh My 500kV substation (Quang Nam province). The Monsoon Wind Power project is expected to be put into commercial operation (COD) in the second quarter of 2025.

The purchase of electricity from the Monsoon Wind Power project is implemented according to the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Laos. The policy of importing electricity from this project was approved by the Prime Minister in Document No. 938/TTg-CN dated July 21, 2022.
