Power sector workers at the frontline
In mid-July 2017, in Hanoi, EVN and the Naval Command held a ceremony to handover clean energy and lighting system on Truong Sa Islands, DK1 gantry; they also concluded a 24-hour power supply agreement for the islands and the gantry. This event raised the list of island districts being supplied with electricity by EVN to 10/12, and EVN would take Con Co island into the list in coming period.
Together with the two islands and
archipelago mentioned above, EVN will complete the taking-over and start to manage and operate the electricity supply in 11/12 island districts in the year 2017, including: Van Don and Co To (Quang Ninh), Cat Hai, Bach Long Vy (Hai Phong), Ly Son (Quang Ngai), Phu Quy (Binh Thuan), Con Dao (Ba Ria - Vung Tau), Phu Quoc, Kien Hai (Kien Giang).
Thus, on the islands in all seas in Vietnam in general and Truong Sa, DK1 platform in particular, EVN staff will be there to go along with troops and people for socio-economic development and protecting the sovereignty territorial of our Motherland.
Mr. Duong Quang Thanh, Chairman of EVN's Members Council, said that this is not only responsibility and duty, but also the honor and pride of every staff in the power sector in Vietnam to carry out the mission to preserve and protect the sovereignty of the sea island of the country.
Light the hope on the far islands
In the past, the islands' power systems (mainly diesel generators, some of which was solar power) were managed by the military or local government. However, customers were only supplied with electricity from 6 to 10 hours per day and only used for domestic lighting due to lack of synchronous grid, obsolete technology, high tariff and poor quality. This was really inconvenient for troops and people on the island to work on socio-economic development.
Implementing the policy of the Party, the State and the Government, over the past several years, EVN invested trillions dongs in submarine and overhead power projects to islands such as Co To, Ly Son, Phu Quoc, aiming at reducing power tariff on islands down to be equal with that on mainland. The stable and 24/24 hours power supply for Truong Sa and islands is extremely important since it ensured social welfare for the people; create incentives to attract investment and promote sea-island economic development.
Mr. Duong Quang Thanh – Chairman of EVN's Members Council:
Despite the limit of budgets, geographic location that is far away from the mainland, and that the islands stretch out over vast seas, with the importance of securing energy resources, we are ready to contribute our resources effectively to the military to protect the nation. EVN is committed to provide sufficient labour and material resources to accomplish this mission.
