EVN’s President and CEO Nguyen Anh Tuan chaired a meeting of the Steering Committee for ensuring electricity supply in 2026 on the afternoon of March 17th in Hanoi. The meeting was held both in-person and online, connecting with units within the Group.

Synchronized solution
In the first two months of this year, the total electricity production and import across the entire system reached over 48.2 billion kWh, an increase of 7.09% compared to the same period in 2025. The Group's commercial electricity output reached 43.5 billion kWh, an increase of 8.46%.
Also during the first two months, coal-fired power plants continued to play a dominant role, accounting for 50.97% of the total power generation output, followed by hydropower at 22.37%, renewable energy at 15.75%, gas-fired power plants at 6.85%, and imports at 4.05%.
The hydrological situation at the beginning of the year is assessed as quite favourable. The total remaining electricity capacity in reservoirs as of the end of February 2026 is estimated at approximately 11.5 billion kWh. Regarding fuel for electricity production, thermal power plants basically ensure that coal inventories are higher than EVN's targets; gas and oil fuels also basically meet the system's mobilization requirements. However, forecasts indicate that this year may see earlier and longer-lasting heatwaves than last year, potentially leading to water shortages, as the La Nina phenomenon will gradually weaken in the first half of this year before shifting to El Niño at the end of 2026 and the beginning of 2027.
To ensure power supply, EVN has been implementing a series of solutions, including directing hydropower plants to regulate water resources appropriately; thermal power plants to ensure fuel supply; and reviewing maintenance schedules to avoid peak periods during the dry season. EVN has also directed its units to accelerate the progress of key power grid projects, capacitor banks, installation of battery energy storage systems (BESS), as well as load management solutions, electricity saving, and the development of distributed power sources.
Priority given to rooftop solar power for self-production and self-consumption.
According to NSMO representative Mr. Nguyen Quoc Trung, Deputy General Director, electricity consumption by residential customers during the recent Tet holiday increased by 10% compared to that of the same period in 2025. Based on NSMO's experience, if the hot weather persists, residential electricity demand could surge by up to 25%.

Representing NSMO, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Trung, Deputy General Director, highly appreciated the close coordination between EVN and its member units in adhering to the approved power generation plan from the end of 2025. Mr. Trung added that the electricity consumption of residential customers during the recent Tet holiday increased by 10% compared to that of the same period in 2025. According to NSMO's experience, if the hot weather persists, residential electricity demand could surge by up to 25%.
To prepare for the peak dry season, the National Energy Service of Vietnam (NSMO) has temporarily suspended the operation of some coal-fired power plants to focus on fuel stockpiling, especially given the complex developments of the military conflict in the Middle East, which could affect fuel supply. In addition, NSMO has devised a plan to maximize the use of domestic natural gas; prioritizing low-cost imported LNG for power generation...
NSMO also proposed coordinating with EVN's five power corporations and local authorities to pre-determine a list of loads that can be reduced at different levels. At the same time, it requested EVN to expedite projects for installing BESS systems, capacitor banks, etc., to effectively supplement the system.
At the meeting, the President and CEO of EVN instructed relevant units to proactively coordinate with NSMO to develop a power source availability plan and improve the accuracy of load forecasting.
For power generation units, the President and CEO requested absolute assurance of sufficient fuel and operational readiness of generating units, and the preparation of complete environmental data so that the Group can propose a special operating mechanism in case the system needs to be mobilized. Regarding the power grid, transmission units are required to promptly deploy capacitor banks and BESS to ensure operation by 2027 at the latest.
The Group's leadership also directed its units to create the best possible conditions for industrial parks and production-business units to install rooftop solar power systems for self-production and self-consumption. This is an effective solution for saving costs for customers themselves, while simultaneously reducing pressure on the national power grid. In particular, the Northern Power Corporation has been implementing this very well in its area of operation, with 2,893 customers developing this power source, reaching a total capacity of approximately 390MW by the end of February.
With synchronized solutions from power generation and grid management to load management, EVN is proactively preparing the necessary conditions to ensure a safe and stable power supply, meeting the needs of socio-economic development in 2026.
