According to the decision, the project will construct a new double-circuit 500kV transmission line from the Yen Bai 500kV Substation to the Thai Nguyen 500kV Substation, with a total length of approximately 94 km. It will also install bay equipment at the Thai Nguyen 500kV Substation to ensure synchronization with the transmission line.

The starting point of the line is the newly constructed 500kV gantry at the Yen Bai 500kV Substation, which will be located in Thac Ba Commune, Lao Cai Province. The end point of the line is the 500kV gantry at the Thai Nguyen 500kV Substation, which will be located in Phuc Thuan Ward, Thai Nguyen Province.

The transmission line will pass through three provinces: Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, and Thai Nguyen. In Tuyen Quang Province alone, the project will pass through seven communes and wards, namely My Lam, Binh Thuan, Binh Ca, Nhu Khe, Son Duong, Minh Thanh, and Thai Binh.

The project has a preliminary total investment of over VND 4,588 billion and is expected to be completed and energized in the fourth quarter of 2027.

Once commissioned, the transmission line will help evacuate power from hydropower plants and renewable energy sources in the Northwest region to the national power system, while strengthening regional grid interconnections and enhancing safe operation and power supply reliability.

The approval of the investment policy and the selection of EVNNPT as the investor provide the basis for proceeding with the next steps of the Thai Nguyen – Yen Bai 500kV Transmission Line Project.
