Completion of Nam Can – Ca Mau 2 220kV power transmission project

The two circuits of the Nam Can – Ca Mau 2 220kV transmission line and the AT2 transformer at Nam Can 220kV Substation were energized in the early hours of August 28, 2026, marking the completion of the project and increasing power supply capacity for Ca Mau Province and surrounding areas.

At 2:55 a.m. on August 28, the Southern Power Projects Management Board (SPMB), under the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), in coordination with the Southern Regional Load Dispatch Centre and relevant units, successfully energized and commissioned the two circuits of the Nam Can – Ca Mau 2 220kV transmission line and the AT2 transformer at Nam Can 220kV Substation.

Together with the AT1 transformer, which was energized on March 31, 2026, the commissioning of the AT2 transformer and the two transmission line circuits marked the completion of the Nam Can 220kV Substation and Nam Can – Ca Mau 2 220kV Transmission Line Project.

The project is a Class I energy project, Group B, invested in by EVNNPT. SPMB represents the investor in managing and overseeing the project, while Power Transmission Company No. 4 (PTC4) will take over its operation and management upon completion.

Nam Can – Ca Mau 2 220kV transmission line has been successfully energized.

Nam Can 220kV Substation is located in Dat Moi Commune, Ca Mau Province. The substation comprises two 220/110/22kV transformers, each rated at 250MVA, for a total capacity of 500MVA.

The 220kV side of the substation is designed with eight bays. At this stage, equipment has been installed for three bays, with space reserved for the remaining five bays to accommodate future grid development. The 110kV side has 18 bays, of which 11 are equipped, and seven are reserved for future grid expansion.

The substation is comprehensively equipped with integrated control, protection, metering, telecommunications, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, meeting power system operational requirements.

The transmission line is 57.8km long and consists of a double-circuit 220kV line connecting the existing Ca Mau 2 220kV Substation with Nam Can 220kV Substation.

The completion of the project will enhance power supply capacity for Ca Mau Province and surrounding areas, meeting the requirements of socio-economic development. It will also help reduce loading on the 220/110kV transformers at Ca Mau 2 220kV Substation and the 110kV transmission lines in the area, while supporting the evacuation of power generated by renewable energy plants in the province.

The project also strengthens grid interconnection and backup capacity in accordance with the N-1 criterion, thereby improving the safety and reliability of the regional power grid.
