On September 27, 2026, the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), the Northern Power Projects Management Board (NPMB), in coordination with the authorities of Hai Ninh Commune, Quang Ninh City, and relevant units, launched construction of the Mong Cai 220kV Substation Project.

The Mong Cai 220kV Substation is being built in Hai Ninh Commune. The project includes the installation of one 220/110/22kV transformer with a capacity of 250MVA. The 220kV side will be equipped with seven bays, while the 110kV side will comprise 10 bays. The project also reserves space for a second transformer and additional bays to meet future expansion needs.

The control, protection, metering, telecommunications, and SCADA systems will be developed synchronously in line with the digital and unmanned substation model, meeting the operational requirements of the transmission grid in the new development phase.

Once completed, the project will help meet growing electricity demand, facilitate the transmission of imported electricity from China, and strengthen grid interconnections. It will thereby contribute to improving power supply reliability and supporting socio-economic development in Quang Ninh and neighboring areas.

In the coming period, NPMB will concentrate resources and work closely with consultants and contractors to keep the project on schedule, while ensuring quality control and compliance with technical standards, occupational safety requirements, and environmental protection regulations. The project is targeted for completion in the second quarter of 2027, strengthening power supply security for Quang Ninh ahead of the summer peak season.

The commencement of construction marks an important milestone for the Mong Cai 220kV Substation Project. EVNNPT, NPMB, and relevant units will focus on completing the project on schedule so that it can soon provide additional capacity for the regional transmission grid.
