Total electricity generation and imports across the power system in August 2026 reached 32.26 billion kWh, up 8.7% year on year. Cumulative figures for the first eight months of 2026 reached 235.82 billion kWh, up 9.3% compared to the same period in 2025. The proportion of mobilized power sources in the whole system in the first eight months of 2026 is as follows:

+ Hydropower: 58.62 billion kWh, accounting for 24.9%.

+ Coal-fired thermal power: 119.24 billion kWh, accounting for 50.6%.

+ Gas turbine power: 18.31 billion kWh, accounting for 7.8%.

+ Renewable energy: 30.5 billion kWh, accounting for 12.9% (of which solar power reached 19.3 billion kWh and wind power reached 10.09 billion kWh).

+ Imported electricity: 8.82 billion kWh, accounting for 3.7%...

Electricity transmission output in the first eight months of 2026 is estimated at 190.1 billion kWh, up 10.82% year on year. The main transmission flows were from northern Vietnam to the central region and from the central region to southern Vietnam, with the highest transmission power recorded on the  Nho Quan – Nghi Son and Thanh Hoa – Quang Trach 500kV transmission lines and across the Central–South interface.

Customer service:

Following the initial success of the EVN Customer Care app, which has recorded 2.5 million downloads since its launch on 15 June 2026, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and its Power Corporations have introduced a new customer care hotline, 1558, for EVN electricity customers nationwide, effective from 15 August 2026. In addition to the 1558 hotline, electricity customers can continue to contact the Power Corporations through their existing customer care numbers.

The launch of the 1558 customer care hotline aims to further promote EVN’s customer service philosophy of “greater simplicity, greater convenience, and putting customer satisfaction at the center.” The services provided via the 1558 hotline are diverse, including: reporting power outages or electrical safety hazards; looking up electricity usage information; submitting requests for service procedures or filing complaints regarding service quality; assisting with inquiries about electricity consumption, bills, payment status, and scheduled power supply interruptions or reductions; providing advice on safe and efficient electricity use; and helping customers verify information when receiving suspicious calls or messages from individuals claiming to be utility company staff.

Construction investment:

In August 2026, EVN continued to direct and urge its units to implement investment and construction tasks in line with the annual plan, with a particular focus on investing in key power generation and grid projects in accordance with the directions of the EVN Party Committee Standing Committee set out in Resolution No. 31-NQ/ĐU dated March 21, 2026.

As of now, the implementation status of key power generation and grid projects is as follows. For the Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant Project, Unit 1 has completed trial operation at rated capacity and is currently undergoing commissioning of the boiler, turbine, and auxiliary equipment. Unit 2 has completed steam blowing and is continuing mechanical alignment of the turbine equipment, with grid synchronization expected in September 2026. The Tri An Hydropower Plant Expansion Project and the Bac Ai Pumped-Storage Hydropower Project are continuing construction in line with the schedule. Other hydropower expansion projects, including the Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant Expansion Project, the expanded Se San 3 Hydropower Plant, and the expanded Se San 4 Hydropower Plant, are currently under consideration by the competent authorities for approval of their investment policies.

Regarding the power grid, during the first eight months of 2026, EVN and its member units commenced construction of 118 projects and energized 116 grid projects at voltage levels ranging from 110kV to 500kV, including five 500kV projects, 15 220kV projects, and 96 110kV projects. Among these, several facilities serving APEC 2027 in Phu Quoc have been energized, including the Phu Quoc 220kV Substation and the Phu Quoc–Nam Phu Quoc 110kV Transmission Line.

Regarding BESS installation, EVNHANOI has completed 50 MW, while EVNNPC has completed 70 MW and is striving to complete a total installed capacity of 305 MW in September 2026. Power Project Management Board No. 2 and EVNGENCO3 are carrying out investment procedures for centralized battery energy storage systems (BESS) in northern Vietnam, with planned capacities of 550 MW and 300 MW, respectively.

Some key tasks for EVN in September 2026

Regarding electricity generation and supply:

According to updated calculations by NSMO, electricity generation and imports across the entire power system in September 2026 are estimated to reach 30.3 billion kWh (an increase of 10.3% year-on-year), with peak capacity potentially reaching 52,473 MW.

To ensure adequate power supply under all circumstances and meet the growth targets set by the Party, the Government, and ministries and agencies, EVN’s member units will continue to strictly, resolutely, and effectively implement their assigned tasks in accordance with the directions of the Government and the Prime Minister set out in Resolutions No. 168/NQ-CP and No. 169/NQ-CP dated June 27, 2026. At the same time, they will continue to ensure effective implementation of disaster prevention and control, and search and rescue efforts during the 2026 storm and rainy season, in accordance with EVN’s directions. Specifically:

- Hydropower units: Continuously monitor and update weather and hydrological conditions; coordinate closely with local authorities and relevant state management agencies; and strengthen monitoring and surveillance of dam and reservoir safety, as well as downstream warning systems.

- Thermal power units: Ensure adequate supplies of fuel and essential materials for operations in the event of natural disasters, storms, and heavy rainfall, with particular attention to being prepared to respond to transportation disruptions, thereby ensuring sufficient fuel supplies for the current period and a stable long-term supply. Complete all scheduled routine maintenance and repairs as planned to ensure generating units are ready for high output during the remaining months of 2026 and the 2027 dry season.

- EVNNPT: Ensure the highest availability of transmission lines and equipment and effectively implement measures to minimize outages.

- Power Corporations/Power Companies:

+ Develop specific response plans and work with large electricity consumers to establish load-shifting and demand response plans, enabling them to prepare for periods of exceptionally high demand during peak hours.

+ Coordinate closely with the NSMO on electricity load management and forecasting, as well as on assessing the impacts of distributed energy resource development (particularly self-produced, self-consumed rooftop solar power systems) and the development of electric vehicle charging infrastructure; promote solutions for electricity conservation, energy efficiency, and load shifting, while remaining ready to mobilize customer-owned diesel generation when necessary.

+ Coordinate closely with provincial and municipal People's Committees, government agencies, public offices, and local authorities to effectively implement programs for electricity conservation and rooftop solar development in accordance with the Prime Minister's Directive No. 10/CT-TTg dated March 30, 2026.

Regarding investment and construction: Ensure the progress of key power generation projects: (i) Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant Project: achieve commercial operation of both generating units in 2026; (ii) Quang Trach III LNG Power Project: complete and submit the feasibility study report to the competent authorities for approval in September 2026; (iii) Tri An Hydropower Plant Expansion Project and Bac Ai Pumped-Storage Hydropower Project: continue to focus on construction in line with the planned targets for the third quarter and full year of 2026; (iv) Environmental emission treatment system renovation and upgrade projects at Quang Ninh, Uong Bi, Hai Phong, and Pha Lai thermal power plants: complete and put the projects into operation as early as possible, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

Regarding investment and construction of the power grid: Strive to energize the entire Nhon Trach 3 Power Plant – Long Thanh 220kV Transmission Line in 2026. Expedite progress to commence construction of projects for importing electricity from China via Guangxi, including the Mong Cai 220kV Substation, the Hai Ha – Mong Cai 220kV Transmission Line, and the Border – Hai Ha Transmission Line, with a view to completing these projects in 2026.

To help ensure a stable power supply for socio-economic development and daily life under all circumstances, EVN calls for continued cooperation and active support from the public and electricity customers through the efficient use of electricity. In particular, EVN recommends using air conditioners economically and efficiently, with the temperature set at 27°C or higher, while avoiding the simultaneous use of multiple high-power electrical appliances during peak hours. The thorough implementation of electricity-saving measures will help minimize the risk of power outages and curb increases in electricity expenses.
