On 21 August 2026, in Ninh Binh Province, Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) completed the acceptance and energization of the province's first battery energy storage system (BESS), officially putting it into operation.
The system is installed at the Phuc Son 110kV substation (E23.17) and has a capacity of 5MW and a storage capacity of 10MWh.

Upon completion, the system was handed over to Ninh Binh Power Company for management. The Ninh Binh High-Voltage Grid Enterprise, a subsidiary of Ninh Binh Power Company, is directly responsible for operating and utilizing the system at the Phuc Son 110kV substation. Concurrently with project implementation, the Ninh Binh High-Voltage Grid Enterprise proactively organized specialized training sessions on BESS operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures for technical staff at Phuc Son 110kV Substation, ensuring their readiness for immediate operation following energization.
This project is part of the initial phase of the plan to invest in battery energy storage systems across the grid managed by EVNNPC, in accordance with the plan assigned by EVN. During this phase, EVNNPC is deploying BESS with a total capacity of 305 MW/610 MWh across 47 110kV substations in eight northern provinces and cities, excluding Hanoi. The new BESS provides an additional load management tool for the local power grid, helping ease pressure on the grid, mitigate the risk of overloading during peak hours, and enhance the reliability of power supply in Ninh Binh Province.
In Ninh Binh, in addition to the system at the Phuc Son 110kV substation, EVNNPC is simultaneously deploying eight BESS units at 110kV substations, including Yen Khanh, X18, Gian Khau, Giao Thuy, Truc Ninh, Trinh Xuyen, Thach To, and Kim Bang. These works are scheduled for completion and energization by the end of September 2026.
