Over the years, the power system in Quang Tri province has basically met the needs of socio-economic development, production, business, and people's lives. According to EVNCPC's report, the national power grid has reached 100% of villages in Quang Tri province, and the percentage of power-supplied households has reached 99.98%.
In the first seven months of 2026, commercial electricity consumption reached 1,396.16 million kWh, an increase of 13.44% compared to that of the same period.
Currently, the total installed capacity of power sources in the province is approximately 1,528MW, about three times the current peak load capacity.
EVN and its member units are focusing on implementing many large-scale power generation projects in Quang Tri. Notably, the Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant Project is being urgently completed, with an overall progress of 99.62%. According to the plan, Unit 1 will begin commercial operation in November 2026 and Unit 2 in December 2026.
Simultaneously, investment in the power transmission system is being intensified to meet the demands of power generation and demand. Many 500kV and 220kV projects are being implemented, including the Quang Tri 2 500kV Switching Station, the Lao Bao 500kV Substation, the Lao Bao - Quang Tri 2 500kV transmission line, and projects to enhance transmission capacity on 220kV lines in the region. According to the plan, several important projects are expected to be completed and put into operation during the 2026-2028 period.
Regarding the distribution grid, in the period 2021-2025, EVNCPC invested over VND 2,169 billion to complete 12 110kV grid projects and 260 medium and low voltage projects. Mr. Nguyen Thanh - Chairman of the Member Board of EVNCPC said: “To meet the increasing load demand and serve the socio-economic development of the province in the period 2026-2030, EVNCPC plans to invest approximately VND 4,324 billion in developing the power grid in Quang Tri province. Specifically, the 110kV projects currently underway include 12 items with a total additional scale of approximately 102.5km of power lines and nearly 400MVA of transformer substation capacity.” EVNCPC leaders affirmed that the Corporation will continue to prioritize resources for investing in power grid development, especially in industrial parks, industrial clusters, and areas with high load growth rates. The projects will be implemented in a coordinated manner, ensuring sufficient capacity, improving the reliability and quality of power supply, and meeting the requirements for attracting investment and expanding production and business in the province.

EVN Vice President Pham Hong Phuong speaks at working session.
According to the revised Power Development Plan VIII and the revised Quang Tri Provincial Power Development Plan, in the period 2026-2030, Quang Tri will have an additional 12,963MW of power generation capacity; and in the period 2031-2035, an additional 3,892MW. It is projected that by 2030, the total power generation capacity in the province will reach approximately 14,491MW, 18.3 times higher than the forecasted load capacity of approximately 792MW. This large-scale power generation requires the synchronized development of the transmission system to ensure the capacity to receive and distribute the generated power.
Therefore, at the meeting, the leaders of Quang Tri province, EVN, and related units discussed solutions to attract and select investors to build a new transmission grid through a public-private partnership model, to operate in sync with power generation projects.
EVN’s Vice President Pham Hong Phuong proposed that Quang Tri province prioritize power generation projects capable of supplying and consuming power locally; continue to support units in investment, construction, and land clearance; allocate land for power projects in the annual land use plan; and expedite procedures for compensation, support, resettlement, and conversion of forest land use.

Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Le Hong Vinh delivers speech.
The Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee emphasized that Quang Tri would continue to work closely with EVN and relevant stakeholders to accelerate project implementation, ensure the coordinated development of power generation and grid infrastructure, and gradually realize the goal of transforming Quang Tri into a national energy hub, thereby creating fresh momentum for socio-economic development in the new era.
