EVN and China Huadian Corporation expand cooperation in energy transition

Working with the delegation of China Huadian Corporation (CHD) on April 3, EVN’s President and CEO Nguyen Anh Tuan and Mr. Zu Bin - Member of CHD's Board of Directors discussed and agreed on strengthening strategic cooperation between the two sides in the energy area, especially green energy development.

CHD is one of the five largest power generators in China, with main business areas including power generation, coal production, providing electrical technical solutions, and new energy research. In Vietnam, CHD through its affiliated unit China Huadian Construction Group (CHED) invests, manages, and operates power projects such as Duyen Hai 2 Thermal Power Plant, Dak Lak Wind Power Project, etc. Currently, CHD has completed research and application of energy conversion technologies such as biomass and coal co-firing, ammonia and coal co-firing; and green hydrogen production.

Mr. Zu Bin - Member of CHD's Board of Directors commented that in recent years, Vietnam's economy has developed rapidly and stably. CHD highly values and appreciates EVN's contributions to Vietnam's energy industry. The leader of China Huadian Corporation hoped that in the coming time, CHD and EVN will expand cooperation and jointly develop a diverse energy market, especially green and sustainable energy.

China Huadian Corporation delegation works at EVN on morning of April 3

The Vietnamese Government made a strong commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050 at COP26. This goal poses enormous challenges for Vietnam's energy industry, especially the electricity sector while ensuring energy security, stably supplying electricity to serve socio-economic development, and realizing energy transition commitments. Therefore, EVN proposed that CHD prioritize early implementation of cooperation activities related to carbon emission reduction and agree on a strategic partnership framework.

In particular, during the energy transition process, EVN has been facing difficulties related to attracting investment, building price frameworks, etc. EVN wishes CHD to share experiences in energy transition, as well as in operating the power system in the context of a high penetration of renewable energy.
