EVN and PCZ sign Memorandum of Understanding

On April 3, in Hanoi, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and PowerChina Zhongnan (PCZ) signed a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation, aiming to promote the experience and strengths of each party to enhance cooperation opportunities in developing power projects.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, EVN’s President and CEO Nguyen Anh Tuan said that the National Power Development Plan for the period 2021 - 2030, vision to 2050, and the Implementation Plan have been approved by the Government.

Accordingly, Vietnam's electricity system is required to develop to meet the electricity needs for socio-economic development in each period, ensuring electricity is one step ahead. Making a strong energy transition from fossil fuels to new energy and renewable energy sources to mitigate environmental pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, etc.

Currently, the installed capacity of Vietnam’s power system reaches about 80,000MW, ranking first in the ASEAN region, of which EVN and its member units own about 38%.

Mr. Zhou Pheng, Chairman and CEO, stated that PCZ has a history of 75 years of formation and development. PCZ has engaged in the development of more than 200 hydropower projects and over 80 pumped storage hydropower projects in China. At the same time, PCZ has also been involved in planning and designing wind power and solar power projects in China and other countries. In Vietnam, PCZ has been present since 2000 and engaged in implementing power generation projects.

The MOU signing between EVN and PCZ is based on good cooperative relations between the two parties, aiming to promote the capacity and strengths of each party to enhance cooperation in developing power projects. After the MOU signing, the two parties will detail plans and implement cooperation activities in 2024 and the following years.
