EVN maintains production operation to ensure power for the whole country in the context of many localities implementing social distancing

That is one of the key contents at the regular briefing on production work of power -generation units in Vietnam Electricity (EVN). General Director of EVN Tran Dinh Nhan chaired the meeting.

The meeting took place in the online form with the participation of EVN's specialized departments, the National Load Dispatch Center (EVNNLDC), the power generation corporations/companies of EVN across the country.

According to EVN's Planning Department, the total amount of energy produced and imported for the whole system in July reached over 23.95 billion kWh, of which energy from coal-fired power plants accounted for about 42.6%, from hydropower plants for 32.6%, from renewable energy sources for 11%. The production output of EVN and EVN's power generation corporations alone reached 11.49 billion kWh, accounting for approximately 48% of the whole power system.

EVN's commercial electricity in July was about 20.55 billion kWh, reaching over 105% compared to the same period in 2020. In the first week of August, a severe heatwave occurred in the North and Central regions, leading to an increase in residential electricity demand. According to data from EVNNLDC, the average power energy consumption in the whole North in the week from 31 July to 6 August was at the level of 379 million kWh/day, 25% higher over the same period in 2020.

At the meeting, one of the directing contents emphasized by the EVN’sGeneral Director was that EVN and its member units continued to make efforts to ensure the dual-goals: performing well the disease prevention and control work, at the same time not interrupting production, business and construction investment activities. In August, power plants will be mobilized based on both hydropower and thermal power optimization; to mobilize hydropower according to water level, while ensuring downstream water supply for localities. To improve the availability of power plants, ensuring completed repair work as planned.

Currently, power corporations/power companies have also been urgently implementing electricity tariffs and electricity price discounts for the 4th time for customers affected by the pandemic. According to preliminary estimates, the total amount of the 4th electricity tariffs and electricity price discounts is about VND2,500 billion. Thus, up to now, although EVN had faced many difficulties due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, EVN had discounted electricity bills four times (in 2020 and 2021) with a total amount of more than VND16,300 billion.
